MINUTES OF THE GILBERT TOWN COUNCIL, IN SPECIAL JOINT MEETING WITH THE CHANDLER UNIFIED SCHOOL BOARD OF TUESDAY MAY 14, 2019 AT 5:00 PM, CHANDLER UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD ROOM, 1525 WEST FRYE ROAD, CHANDLER, ARIZONA COUNCIL PRESENT: Mayor Jenn Daniels, Vice Mayor Eddie Cook, Councilmembers Scott Anderson, Brigette Peterson, Jordan Ray, Jared Taylor, and Aimee Yentes COUNCIL ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Town Manager Patrick Banger, Town Clerk Lisa Maxwell, Deputy Clerk Chaveli Herrera, Town Attorney Christopher Payne AGENDA ITEM CALL TO ORDER Barb Mozdzen, Chandler School Board President, called the meeting to order at 5:08 p.m. ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS 1. Welcome, Introductions and the Pledge of Allegiance. Chandler School Board President Mozden welcomed everyone and had everyone introduce themselves. She led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. 2. Invocation Dr. Craig Gilbert, Assistant Superintendent, gave the invocation. 3. Presentation and discussion on Gilbert growth and development in regards to current and upcoming activity within the Town. Vice Mayor Cook left the meeting. Town Manager Patrick Banger updated the group on the Town’s updated Mission Statement. He then gave updated stats on the Gilbert population. Town Manager Banger discussed the need to bring 5G technology to the Town to modernize the Town’s infrastructure. He presented highlights for the Town in the past year. Mayor Daniels thanked the school district staff for the work they are doing. People come to Gilbert because of the school districts. 1 Councilmember Taylor, the Council liaison to the CUSD, said the Chandler school district is the gold standard for school districts. 4. Presentation and discussion on Chandler Unified School District and interactions with the Town. Dr. Camille Casteel, Superintendent, discussed the highlights from the Chandler Unified School District for the past year. She said this next fall they will be opening a Cyber Security School in the fall with the graduates receiving the certifications needed to begin work. The annual report video was shown. Superintendent Casteel thanked the Town for their help with finding a place for the school’s to park their buses.
