WELCOME TO GLENDALE’S CONVENTION VISITORS BUREAU (CVB) MARKETING EXECUTIVE BOARD Zoom Meeting: May 13, 2020 Present: Shawn Storey Kelly Kluft Mat Meadows Jeff Hamilton Susie Falk Donney Moroney Brenda Vento Jesse BaDour Ann Deuser Rachel Safstrom Meeting Commenced: 2:08PM 1. Introductions a. Introduction of CVB’s new assistant Jesse BaDour 2. What Welcome to Glendale has been doing a. Wild Apricot Database i. A new software called Wild Apricot for GABA members as well as using this software to create an Event Resource database for vendors, entertainers, logistics, food/drinks etc. b. Maintaining COVID-19 Communications i. Uploading to website, Facebook page, and email blasts c. Promoting Glendale Businesses i. Worked online to update Business & Restaurant Directory with accurate information d. Updating our Resources i. Community Volunteer Lists 3. Revision for 2020 a. Executive Director Deuser shared a recap page of each area within Welcome to Glendale and the measures being taken: i. GABA, Community Marketing, CVB Marketing, Root Beer Bash, Food Drive?, Revenue Generators, and possible new CVB Location 4. Glendale Hotel Status Update a. Room Tax Dollars i. Administrator Safstrom discussed that revenue will be lower for 2020 and is continually on the decline ii. First quarter is fine because closures began on March 14 iii. Hotels not being able to make payments so will have to pay an interest fee too b. Mat discusses his hotel- Holiday Inn Milwaukee Riverfront i. They are at 10% occupancy, had to make layoffs (54 people), weddings and other events rebooking for 2021, looking at revising operational procedures, ii.Hotels are struggling to pay bills, hoping for stimulus funding for tourism/hotel sector c. New Airbnb i. Administrator Safstrom stated the website should not be amended ii. Could potentially be shut down if not operated correctly d. STR Report for Wisconsin Hotel Lodging Association i. Down 35-40% statewide from 2019 numbers 5. Budget Update a. Need to Increase revenues i. Have paid sponsorships? Have people pay for ads on website? ii. Brenda suggests a “Community Support Package”- marketing and signage on FB, Ads, Max recognition highlighted at Root Beer Bash etc. b. Minimize expenses as best as possible/ no unnecessary spending c. Need an updated Root Beer Bash Budget 6. GABA Updates a. Memberships i. Virtual Networking opportunities with elected officials, Webinars (Canva & SEO), Promotions, email blasts are included b. Revenue Plans i. Increase Membership and Webinars for non-members c. Member Discounts i. Finalized a program with Office Depot/Office Max- on website, great discounts ii. Still asking for discounts from GABA members d. Grad Grams? i. At this time, there is not sufficient funding available. Businesses may want to participate on their own. e. Pricing Strategy i. WTG will now have quarterly payments for GABA (board approved) f. Small Business Relief Fund? i. Administrator Safstrom stated Glendale has no funding resources for these types of loans 7. Event Statuses a. Cancellations: WBLF, 4th of July, Music in the Glen b. Active: Root Beer Bash, Oktoberfest, 5K Stomp Out Crime (TBD), National Night Out to be postponed to October? c. GABA Events- still active d. Rain Barrel Program from MMSD i. Community Art Project ii. Committee talked about having this as a photo contest iii. Promote on FB, possibly have at Root Beer Bash? iv. Participants send a picture of their barrel on facebook and email v. For both Residents AND Businesses vi. Create a Glendale Package or Prize Gift Card for winner of contest vii. Participants pay and pick up own barrel e. Small Business Saturday- November 28 8. Convention & Visitors Bureau a. Existing Marketing (Plans from 2019) have been launched: i. Wisconsin Travel Guide, Bike Guide, and WHLA b. Sink Hole on Oak Leaf Trail i. Blocked as Milwaukee Parks deemed dangerous with new detour ii. 600,000 to repair, may be a while to reopen iii. If Stomp Out Crime happens, race will run North due to this closure c. DNC Marketing i. Moved to August, may be virtual, and cut staff last week, ii. Not sure if will happen d. Ryder Cup i. Possibly no spectators ii. Reached out to Marketing Director- shared information on Glendale iii. Potentially move to 2021?/ not have one this year? e. Society of Travel Writers i. October 11 in Milwaukee ii. WTG is going to receive mailing list of 1000 people iii. Potentially could go and promote Glendale, but VISIT Milwaukee is already going to be there f. North Shore Solid Campaign i. WTG would not run this, Shorewest would as they have resources ii. To promote solidarity iii. Shorewest creates a website to share positive stories/ yard signs only on private property iv. Salute front line workers and teachers to boost morale g. National Travel Tourism Week i. WTG promoted on FB ii. Longwoods International Research indicates multi-generational travel will be strong 1. Focus on Root Beer? iii. Ms. Falk suggests using Staycation Ads from 2001-02 and 2008 and creating a slogan using “roots” and related to family roots.“Getting back to your family roots….” h. Revenue Generators i. Website, GABA members/ Webinars, Sponsorships, Room tax $, Wild Apricot Event Resource List i. Insurance? i. Still Unknown and needs to be looked into ii. There is insurance for events in the park- Rec Immunity and personal 9. Next Meeting Date: Wednesday, August 12 @ 2PM Meeting Adjourned at 3:39PM
