City of Glendale Official Minutes – Music in the Glen Meeting February 6, 2019 Meeting was called to order at 3:39 p.m. Roll Call: Present: JoAnn Shaw, Chair; Members; Rita Radke, Lee Carey Johnson and Tristann Rieck. Absent: Robert Radke Staff Present: Anna Voigt, Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Guest: Ann Deuser, Executive Director of Welcome to Glendale Convention & Visitors Bureau. Open Meeting Notice. In accordance with the Open Meeting Law, the local news media was advised on Thursday, January 31, 2019, of the date of this meeting; that the agenda was posted on the official bulletin board of City Hall, the Glendale Police Department, and the North Shore Library; that copies of the agenda were made available to the general public in the Municipal Building and the Police Department, and those persons who requested, were sent copies of the agenda. Adoption of Minutes of meeting held on January 9, 2019 Motion was made by Ms. Carey Johnson, seconded by Ms. Radke, approving the minutes held on January 9, 2019 with corrections. Finalize Musical Acts and Schedule The committee agreed that all of the dates for the show were good. Ms. Radke received a contract from Ladies Must Swing for June 19. The contract came with a past flyer of a performance that was dedicated to Veterans. The Ladies Must Swing will be sent a contract. Ms. Radke stated that contract from Kids from Wisconsin has been signed and Homestead High School has been booked. The Kids from Wisconsin was going to host a workshop before the performance. The Music in the Glen show will not be affected, but Ms. Radke asked if Ms. Deuser would like to reach out to Kids from Wisconsin regarding how the marketing is going to work if they do host the workshop. Ms. Radke stated that Mr. Radke spoke with Kay Stiefel and Jack Forbes Wilson. They both would like to do the show they just need a contract sent to them. Ms. Shaw asked for an email, phone number and address to be provided. Ms. Radke stated Mr. Radke’s concerned with Pat McCurdy may offend the regular Music in the Glen crowd. If Pat McCurdy followers come they may be disappointed with his toned down performance. It also states in his contract that he gets paid rain or shine. Our contract states that if the show is cancelled due to weather the act gets to keep 25% of the fee. Ms. Dueser said there would be two options on how to handle the show for Pat McCurdy. There will be a Network at Night held at the park before Music in the Glen on July 24. The crowd from Network at Night will hopefully stay for Music in the Glen and could become potential sponsors. The crowd from Network at Night wouldn’t be of families like the usual Music in Glen crowd. Pat McCurdy could be moved to the same night as Network at Night. The other option is to advertise Pat McCurdy with a disclaimer that some things may be offensive. Ms. Carey Johnson stated that she was at a meeting with a few neighbors and they were excited to hear Pat McCurdy could be coming to Music in the Glen. Ms. Rieck was going to see if Whiskey Belles could move to July 17. Ms. Carey Johnson was going to contact Pat McCurdy and see if he could a show with the idea that families will be there. Pat McCurdy has done shows for Glendale events in the past and was able to modify his show. Ms. Rieck stated Pat McCurdy was not booked on July 17 according to their website. Ms. Dueser had a few ideas of who could sponsor the show including a disclaimer. Ms. Carey Johnson contacted Groove Therapy. They were excited to do a show for Music in the Glen. After talking with Mr. Radke they lowered their prices because they would also like the exposure in the area. Ms. Radke asked if moving the Concord Chamber Orchestra up in the season would be a good idea. The Orchestra was in the dark the first year in August. Ms. Rieck stated that they should be fine. She will mention to bring their own lights for the stand and that there will be no intermission. Ms. Shaw stated that the Neil Diamond Tribute band still has a sponsor and he will be playing. She just needs to confirm the date and that he will be bringing his backup band instead of using his trick track. Discuss Fundraising Options Ms. Deuser will be doing the booklets for Music in the Glen again this year. She asked the committee if they would like to do the same size booklet as last year or do something bigger. Discuss New Sponsorship Form Ms. Dueser had a new sponsorship form that she went over. If one of the Music in the Glen concert gets rained out they can play at Root Beer Bash. Each concert at the park was about 300-400 people. Ms. Dueser would like to rise for $7,000 - $8,000 for 2019. Every sponsor from last year will be given the first opportunity to sponsor this year. Discuss Network at Night Ms. Dueser stated that Network at Night will be held at the park on July 24. People will hopefully stay for the music after the meeting. Everyone that goes to Network at Night is a potential sponsor. Ms. Dueser suggested that Pat McCurdy would be a good show to have on July 24. Set Next Meeting Date The committee scheduled the next meeting for March 20, 2019 at 3:30 PM at Brass Bell Music Store, 210 W. Silver Spring Dr. Old/New Business Ms. Deuser added she would like the bands to submit a picture and bio for the book and website. She will send them an ad to use on Facebook and other social platforms. If they post an ad supporting Music in the Glen it will help spread the word. Committee members are going to reach out to the performers to confirm dates.
