SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING CANVASS OF ELECTION RESULTS SEPTEMBER 1, 2020 The Greenville City Council convened in the Council Chamber of City Hall on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at 10:00 am for a Special Called Meeting of the City Council. Proper notice of this additional Council Meeting was given to all councilmembers and media officials on August 28th, was advertised on the city’s website, and by the local newspapers and radio station. Mayor Dexter McLendon called the meeting to order. City Clerk-Treasurer Dee H. Blackmon called the roll and recorded the following members present: Mayor McLendon, Councilmembers Bryan Reynolds, Ed Sims, Tommy Ryan, Jimmy Lawson and Boris Thigpen. Mayor McLendon led those attending in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. Councilmember Ryan delivered the invocation. NEW BUSINESS: RESOLUTION 2020-35. A RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE ELECTION RESULTS FOR THE AUGUST 25, 2020 CITY OF GREENVILLE, ALABAMA MUNICIPAL ELECTION AND DECLARING DEXTER McLENDON DULY ELECTED TO THE OFFICE OF MAYOR; JOSEPH WEST DULY ELECTED TO THE OFFICE OF COUNCILMEMBER, DISTRICT THREE; AND JAE’QUES BROWN DULY ELECTED TO THE OFFICE OF COUNCILMEMBER, DISTRICT FOUR. Mayor McLendon advised the purpose for this meeting was to canvass the results of the Municipal Election held on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. He turned the floor over to Elections Manager and City Clerk Dee Blackmon. Mrs. Blackmon advised the Canvassing Board (council) had received official sealed election results from each polling site with same being cited in the official resolution accepting those results. She further advised that thirteen provisional ballots were cast and presented to the Butler County Board of Registrars, as required by law, for verification. The Board of Registrars reported that six ballots were deemed countable; therefore, the votes were opened and counted and added to the tabulation of votes. Final tabulation of votes cast was presented to the City Council. Mayor McLendon called for the pleasure of the Council regarding adoption of the resolution. Councilmember Reynolds moved to adopt Resolution 2020-35 canvassing the results of the August 25, 2020 Municipal Election , authorizing six provisional votes as countable . Councilmember Sims seconded the motion. Mayor McLendon announced the motion carried with a unanimous vote of the Council.
