The purpose of tonight’s meeting was regarding the consideration of upgrades for Baseball
Diamonds at Ghesquiere Park. Director of Public Services Kowalski provided an overview of his
memo dated December 11, 2024. He stated that in October representatives from the Grosse Pointe
Woods-Shores Little League (GPWSLL) approached Council regarding upgrades to the Baseball
Diamonds at Ghesquiere Park.
Initially, for budgeting purposes, the intent was to upgrade the diamonds within a couple of years.
However, the GPWSLL was recently given the opportunity to host the State Little League
Tournament at Ghesquiere Park the week of July 25 – 30, 2025. This tournament will bring people
from all over the state and is an opportunity to promote the city, park, and the Little League.
Administration suggested getting costs on all the needed improvements to be started in the spring
of 2025. The estimated cost for the upgrades was $178,226.92. During discussion it was addressed

that in order to have a completed upgrade, an additional $22,000 was needed to place two new
dugouts for the Senior Ball Diamond. With the additional updates, the projected cost was
approximately $200,000.
There was a consensus of the Committee-of-the-Whole and Administration to move forward with
the project and include the additional dugouts for the Senior Ball Diamond.
Discussion continued regarding timing of the project and consideration of events such as Winter
Fest. Also addressed was the coordination with the Construction Committee, especially for
projects regarding Ghesquiere Park and its parking lots and sidewalks. The project is proposed to
be completed before Opening Day.
Motion by Gafa, seconded by Motschall, that the Committee-of-the-Whole recommend to City
Council the approval of upgrades for Baseball Diamonds at Ghesquiere Park including the additional
dugouts for the Senior Ball Diamond at a cost approximately $22,000, bringing the total project to an
estimated cost of $200,000.
Motion carried by the following vote:
Yes: Brown, Bryant, Gafa, Granger, Koester, McConaghy, Motschall
No: None

Under New Business/Public Comment, no one wished to be heard.
Motion by Gafa, seconded by Koester, that the meeting of the Committee-of-the-Whole be
adjourned at 7:33 p.m. PASSED UNANIMOUSLY.
