Minutes of the Grosse Pointe Woods Tree Commission Meeting October 1, 2025. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Lechner at 7:03 p.m. The following members were present: Kate Colborn Laura Gaskin Maria Galbo Gary Lechner Paul Lechner Mary Ellen Meyering Randy Rennpage The following members were excused: Tim Madigan Christina Pitts Steve Skorupski The following members were absent: The following were also in attendance: Michael Koester, Council Representative Motion by G Lechner, seconded by Randy Rennpage to approve the agenda for the meeting October 1, 2025 passed by the following vote. Yes: 7 No: 0 Excused: 3 Motion by Rennpage, seconded by Maria Galbo to approve the minutes for the meeting on June 4, 2025 passed by the following vote. Yes: 7 No: 0 Excused: 3 Motion by Colborn, seconded by Rennpage to approve the minutes for the meeting on September 3, 2025 passed by the following vote. Yes: 7 No: 0 Excused: 3 Treasurer’s Report: Rennpage reported that there were no changes to the Tree Commission balance which stands at $1847.50. Old Business: A. The City Council meeting recognizing the Poster contest winners went well. Attendees and members enjoyed the recognition of the students’ efforts and creativity. New Business: A. The City tree giveaway went well. Thanks to Gary Lechner for organizing the event. Residents would like to see more small trees included in future events, citing concerns about large root systems. Chairman Lechner noted favorable comments on the Grosse Pointe Woods Community Facebook page. Gary Lechner moved that we encourage the city to make this an annual event with a budget of $5000 or less. The motion was seconded by Gaskin and passed by the following vote: Yes: 7 No: 0 Excused: 3 B. The DPW has 60 trees to plant for residents this fall. They are petticoat maple, tulip black gum and columnar hornbeams. They should go in during the first two weeks of October. The City is also applying for a DTE grant that will provide 12 more trees. C. The seedlings chosen for the Arbor Day Program will be Eastern Cedars. D. Gaskin told the group that she will be selling her home in the near future and will not renew her Commission membership. Council representative Michael Koester provided an update of current city business. Motion to adjourn at 8:24 PM moved by Gaskin, and seconded by Colborn, was unanimous.
