City of Grosse Pointe Woods Historical Commission Minutes February 12, 2026 I. Call to Order The regular meeting of the Grosse Pointe Woods Historical Commission was called to order at 7:36 p.m. by Chair Sean Murphy. II. Roll Call Present: Colleen D’Agostino, Krystle English, Shirley Hartert, Suzanne Kent, Stephanie Listman, Lynne Millies, Sean Murphy, Becky Veitengruber, Giles Wilborn Excused: David Bryk Also Present: City Council Representative Jim Motschall and 5 members of the Fox Creek Questers of Daughters of the American Revolution III. Approval of Agenda Motion by Hartert, seconded by Millies, to approve the agenda for February12, 2026. Ayes: all. Motion carried. IV. Approval of Minutes Motion by Kent, seconded by Hartert, to approve the November 13, 2025 minutes. Ayes all. Motion carried. V. Items Treasurer’s Report Hartert reported that the Historical Commission balance is $5.00. The Cook Schoolhouse balance is $8,736.10. Hartert noted that the city council approved the budget for Historical commission in the amount of $2,542.00 thru 06/30/2026. VI. Old Business A. Cook School Motion by Hartert, seconded by Listman, that the city would seek additional bids to address exterior needs of Cook School – to include, but not limited to: power wash exterior, scrape all loose paint, coat with primer, paint, replace all rotten wood, fix dormers, with funding. For future repairs and upgrades, the commission requests to have the knowledge of funding source (city budget or Cook School budget). The commission further requests that the city add a new line item for yearly budget for maintenance and upkeep of Cook School to allow for other organizations, such as questers, to provide grants or other funding to be able to work with the city to fund Cook School projects. Ayes: all. Motion carried. B. Memorial Day 2026 Ideas and plans were discussed for Memorial Day Observance “Circle of Honor.” Motion by Listman, seconded by Veitengruber, for Memorial Day Observance “Circle of Honor” 2026, celebrating America’s 250th anniversary with the following: - Speakers (costumed) to portray George Washington and Minute Men, and also members of the DAR, representing their patriot ancestor. City of Grosse Pointe Woods Historical Commission Minutes February 12, 2026 - Cake to be served to attendees following the ceremony. - Distribution of commemorative 250th anniversary flags (donated by the Louisa St. Clair chapter of the DAR). Ayes: all. Motion carried. VII. New Business A. Hartert shared the recommended budget for the Historical Commission for 2026-2027 as $3,074.00. Motion by Veitengruber, seconded by Millies to accept the budget as presented. Ayes: all. Motion carried. B. 1. Murphy shared drafts of the commission’s 2024 and 2025 Annual Reports. 2. English and Veitengruber volunteered to work on the 2026 Annual Report. C. Election of Officers: Motion by Millies, seconded by Listman, to nominate Shirley Hartert for commission treasurer. Hartert accepted. Ayes: all. Motion carried. Motion by Millies, seconded by Hartert, to nominate Becky Veitengruber for commission secretary. Veitengruber accepted. Ayes: all. Motion carried. Motion by Millies, seconded by Hartert, to nominate Stephanie Listman for commission vice chair. Listman accepted. Ayes: all. Motion carried. Motion by Listman, seconded by Millies, to nominate Sean Murphy for commission chair. Murphy accepted. Ayes: all. Motion carried. VIII. Call to Audience A. Public: Members of the Fox Creek Questers of Daughters of the American Revolution presented a 250th anniversary American flag as a gift to the Cook Schoolhouse. This gift was graciously accepted by the commission on behalf of the Cook Schoolhouse. B. Council Representative Motschall shared a thank you from Mayor Bryant to the commission for their work. Motschall also shared city updates and events. IX.
