Historical Commission Minutes
May 14, 2026
I. Call to Order
The regular meeting of the Grosse Pointe Woods Historical Commission was called to order at
7:42 p.m. by Chair Sean Murphy.
II. Roll Call
Present: David Bryk, Krystle English, Shirley Hartert, Suzanne Kent, Stephanie Listman,
Lynne Millies, Sean Murphy, Becky Veitengruber, Giles Wilborn
Excused: Colleen D’Agostino
Also Excused: City Council Representative Jim Motschall
Guest: Katie Dowgiewicz (GPW resident)
III. Approval of Agenda
Motion by Veitengruber, seconded by Hartert, to approve the agenda for May 14, 2026.
Ayes: all. Motion carried.
IV. Approval of Minutes
Motion by Hartert, seconded by Kent, to approve the minutes for April 9, 2026.
Ayes all. Motion carried.
V. Items
Treasurer’s Report
Hartert reported that the Historical Commission balance is $5.00. The Cook
Schoolhouse balance is $9,261.10 and the approved budget for the Historical Commission is
$1,310.00 thru 06/30/2026.
VI. Old Business
A. Cook School
1. Bryk, Millies, and Veitengruber hosted the May 9th open house. There were 5 visitors
and no donations.
2. Articles from local newspapers were shared amongst the commission, covering the
2nd grade students of GPPSS and the field trips to the Cook Schoolhouse.
3. Murphy shared that Jim Kowalski said exterior spring cleaning of the schoolhouse
would take place soon.
4. Discussion amongst the commission about out the hanging of Fox Creek Questers’
gift of a framed copy of the Constitution, in the schoolhouse.
5. Discussion of itemized list of gifts and monetary donations given by Fox Creek
Questers.
6. Commission discussed idea of hosting an antique appraisal event.
B. Memorial Day 2026
Ideas and plans for Memorial Day “Circle of Honor” were shared by Listman.
Commission members’ duties confirmed.

The meeting adjourned at 9:08p.m.
