as of August 31, 2025.
OLD BUSINESS:
Seniors’ Picnic:
It was the consensus of those present that the Seniors’ Picnic was a success. Comments and
suggestions included: holding the picnic on a week day was a good idea; holding it indoors, with
outdoor space available, too, was also a good idea. The hours of 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM worked
well. Suggestions for next year’s picnic included having small bottles of water as the only
beverage, and have them starting to chill the night before. Agreed that National Coney and Wally’s
were very good. It was suggested that, again, next year, event participants could pick up their ice
cream from the cooler on the way back to their tables with their food so that it would not be so
hard and difficult to consume. It was suggested that cash prizes for bingo be continued, and that
additional event prizes could include Kroger gift cards, totaling $100, and gift certificates for The
Helm and City of GPW activities.
Discussion Items:
A. Holiday Social – Friday, December 5, 2025
A general discussion followed regarding suggestions for the event, and this Commission’s
participation in it. It was suggested that:
1. At sign up, make sure people who want to be together are assigned to the same table.
2. A chart with the table numbers and locations be up front near the check in tables (and the
table for Sunrise must be near the entryway).
The discussion resulted in the following motions.
Motion by Karen Everham, seconded by Karen McLeod, that a request for funds in the amount of
$300, to be taken from the Senior Citizens’ Commission Carry Forward Account #213-000-
674.320, be submitted to City Council to cover expenses towards desserts for the Holiday Social.
Said motion passed unanimously.
Motion by Pamela Solomon, seconded by Marianne Langlois, that a request for funds in the
amount of $100, to be taken from the City’s General Fund, be submitted to City Council to cover
the expense of the purchase of ten $10 Kroger gift cards as prizes for the Holiday Social. Said
motion passed unanimously.
REQUEST FOR IMMEDIATE CERTIFICATION OF MINUTES
Motion by Karen Everham, seconded by Karen McLeod, to recommend to the Mayor the
immediate certification of the previous motions for requests for funds of $300, to be taken from
the Senior Citizens’ Commission Carry Forward Account #213-000-674.320, be submitted to City
Council to cover expenses towards desserts for the Holiday Social. and $100, to be taken from the
City’s General Fund , for the purchase of ten $10 Kroger gift cards as prizes for the Holiday Social.
Said motion passed unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS
Ice Cream Social: The date for the Ice Cream Social for 2026 has not yet been determined. It
was suggested that it be set for a date in the week following the GPW Flower Sale so that items
remaining from that sale could be available as prizes. It was also suggested the Commission
meeting following the Ice Cream Social event be set at 2:30 PM.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Vicki Granger presented an update on the Active Adult Commission.
No members of the public were in attendance.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion made by Don Witt, seconded by Pamela Solomon, that the meeting adjourn. Motion
passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 1:25 PM.
The next meeting of this Commission will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 4:00 PM,
at Robert E. Novitke Municipal Center-Community Center – Lake Room.
Respectfully submitted,
Catherine Dumke, Secretary
