SENIOR CITIZENS’ COMMISSION
MINUTES OF July 15, 2025 MEETING
CALL TO ORDER:
Heidi Uhlig-Johnstone, Chair, called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM.
ROLL CALL:
Commission Members:
Present: Catherine Dumke, Karen Everham, Karen McLeod, Pamela Solomon, Heidi Uhlig-
Johnstone (Helm Life Center), Ron Wehrmann and Don Witt, constituting a quorum.
Absent: Marianne Langlois and Kevin Quasarano.
Rita O’Farrell, the City of GPW Confidential Administrative Assistant and Event Programmer,
and City Council Representative Vicki Granger were also in attendance.
Motion by Karen McLeod, seconded by Pamela Solomon, to excuse Commission Members
Marianne Langlois and Kevin Quasarano from attendance at today’s meeting. Passed
unanimously.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Motion by Ron Wehrmann, seconded by Karen Everham, to approve the minutes of the Senior
Citizens’ Commission meeting held on May 16, 2025. Said motion passed unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS: Review of Ice Cream Social held May 16, 2025.
Various Commission members reported receiving positive feedback from attendees of the Ice
Cream Social. Commission members felt that the event would benefit from additional prizes.
NEW BUSINESS
DISCUSSION ITEMS:
Plans for Seniors’ Picnic at Lakefront Park on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, 11:00 a.m.
– 1:00 p.m.
Plans for the picnic include lunch to again be provided by National Coney, ice cream by Wally’s,
with the Commission to provide chips and beverages, as well as Kroger gift cards for prizes. Fees
for attendance are $8.00 for residents, and $10.00 for nonresidents. Sign up for the event will be
through the Community Center, with a limit of 75.
Bingo, as well as a presentation by Rita O’Farrell about GPW trips and outings (she will bring
flyers), are anticipated.
A general discussion ensued among those present which included comments by Ron Wehrmann
and Rita O’Farrell regarding the success of the seniors’ trip to Marine City, as well as a report
from Vicki Granger, GPW’s representative on the Active Adults Commission regarding the
senior millage fund and planning for use of those funds.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Treasurer Ron Wehrmann presented his report to the Commission, showing the balance on hand
as of June 30, 2025.
PUBLIC COMMENT
No members of the public were in attendance.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion made by Pamela Solomon, seconded by Don Witt, that the meeting adjourn. Motion
passed unanimously.
The next meeting of this Commission will be held following the Seniors’ Picnic on Wednesday,
September 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at the GPW Lakefront Park Bathhouse, 23000 East Jefferson, St.
Clair Shores, MI.
It is requested that, on the day of the picnic, Committee Members arrive at the park at 10:00
AM to assist with set up for the event.
