City Council

A Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Hackensack was held at City Hall, 65 Central Avenue, Hackensack, New Jersey, on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. Mayor Melfi called the meeting to order and the City Clerk, Debra Heck, stated: “In accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 231, Laws of 1975, adequate notice of this meeting was provided by sending a notice to The Record and the Star-Ledger and by posting a copy on the Bulletin Board in City Hall.” The City Clerk called the roll: Present – Mayor Michael R. Melfi, Deputy Mayor Marlin G. Townes, Jr., Councilman Jorge E. Meneses, City Attorney Joseph C. Zisa and City Manager Stephen Lo Iacono. Councilwoman Karen K. Sasso and Councilman Charles P. McAuliffe were absent. Mayor Melfi asked everyone to stand for the flag salute. Note: Resolution No. 238-08 is attached to the end of the minutes. Prior to the adoption of Resolution No. 238-08 the City Manager gave a brief synopsis of the reasons for same. He indicated that there will be no change in the bottom line of the budget, however there will be a small decrease in the amount to be raised through taxation. He further indicated that the amendment clears up some previously estimated line items for which set amounts were not known at the time of introduction. A motion was made by Deputy Mayor Townes and seconded by Councilman Meneses to open the meeting to the public. John Taylor welcomed former Deputy Mayor Melfi to the position of Mayor. He stated that he hoped to be able to open up dialogue to get things going. As no one else wished to be heard, a motion was made by Councilman Meneses and seconded by Deputy Mayor Townes to close the public portion of the meeting.
