Queen Street, Hampton __________________________________________________________________ Call to Order: At 5:51pm, by Chris Bowman, Chairperson Action Items Item 1: Review and Approval of Meeting Minutes-January 17, 2017  The meeting minutes were approved, with no corrections.  Meeting agendas and approved meeting minutes are now available online at www.hampton.gov/unity Item 2: Welcome to New Commissioners- Old Business  Item 1: Vacancies and Commissioner Requirements 1. City Council filled all existing vacancies on March 8, 2017 2. The commission now has 15 commissioners. 3. Another copy of “Summary of Council Consensus on Boards and Commissions Practices” was distributed and is attached to these minutes. 4. All commissioners must be residents of the City of Hampton. A copy of the residency requirement was distributed and is attached to these minutes. 5. The proposed recruitment methodology for CEARC has been temporarily suspended; a copy of the proposed methodology was distributed and is attached to these minutes. 1  Item 2: CEARC Bylaws 1. The final version of the bylaws were never signed by the Chairperson. 2. The commission deferred the finalization of the bylaws to its next meeting to allow the new commissioners an opportunity to fully review. 3. A copy of the bylaws was distributed and is attached to these minutes. Training and Development Series Presentations from: The Honorable Anton Bell, Hampton Commonwealth’s Attorney Office Karla Crump Reaves, Hampton Victim Services Unit “The Power of Teams and Collaboration”  Several activities were conducted, which allowed commissioners to get to know each other better and to learn about their individual style of work and leadership. New Business  Item 1: Election of New Vice Chairperson and Appointment of Committee Leads 1. The commission voted to defer the election to the May, 2017 meeting. Commissioner Leroy Foster, Jr. made the motion and it was seconded by Commissioner Yolanda Earl. Announcements 1. National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is April 2-April 8. Karla Crump Reaves invited all commissioners to attend the annual breakfast on Thursday, April 6th. A formal invitation will be disseminated, via email. 2. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. On April 1, 2017, the Center for Sexual Assault Survivors will host its annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” at Peninsula Town Center. All are invited to attend and men are encouraged to participate.
