CITIZENS’ ENGAGEMENT ADVISORY AND REVIEW COMMISSION ANNUAL RETREAT MEETING MINUTES Attendance: Alice Callahan, Shawn O’Keefe, James “Jim” Williams, Ryan Kotrch, Lance Jones, Jasmine Luckey Staff: Imara G. Johnson (AN), Michele Riddick- Hamilton (AN) Sanket Archarya (Community Liaison), Dwain Alexander _____________________________________________________________________________________ Date: September 24, 2022 Time: 10:00 am Venue: Northampton Community Center 1435 – A Todds Lane Hampton, VA 23666 _____________________________________________________________________________________ Call to Order: Shawn O’Keefe, Chairperson @ 10:02 am Roll Call: Gabe Diaz, Executive Director Action Items Item 1: Welcome and Introductions – Executive Director, Gabe Diaz, welcomed everyone and thanked Commissioners for being present. He acknowledged the purpose of this year’s training is to familiarize the commission with training in crisis review, prevention, management and communication. Item 2: Review and Approval of Meeting Minutes – Due to a quorum not met at the beginning of the meeting, approval of meeting minutes from 5/17/22 has been deferred until the next regularly scheduled meeting. New Business Item 1: FY2022 Annual Report Review – Director Gabe Diaz gave a detailed summary of the fiscal year 2022 Annual report for the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Highlighted areas include the City’s Commitment, climate & relations, training & education, program and even highlights, community engagement and infrastructure. Item 2: Bylaws – DEFERRED TO NEXT MEETING Item 3: Commitment to Excellence Review – DEFERRED TO NEXT MEETING 1 Officer Elections – DEFERRED TO NEXT MEETING Training Session Gabe Diaz shared facilitation strategies with respect to revolving conversations, qualities of a great facilitator and information on study circles. After the presentation, Commissioners were encouraged to put their learning to the test as we held a mock community conversation centered around a “hot button topic”.
