School Pride in Action Meeting
In attendance: Wendy Iles, HCCC, Sally Lewis,

Updates:
● Nancy Eason (Armstrong ES)
○ K-kids started recycling last week.
● Sheryl McLaughlin (Jones MS)
○ Trex: Ecology Club got bins/posters for
around the school.
○ Locker magnets. (recycling paper only for
now)
○ Extra magnets available if needed from
KHS.
● Wendy Iles (HCCC)
○ Trex- make sure that they are in clear bags
to not mistake it for trash.
○ 1st of December incoming recycle bin
ordering
● Julia Santiago (Phillips ES)
○ VA agricultural garden using Ag In the
Classroom
○ Kidsgardeningcommunity.org **New
opportunities**
○ Hampton Master Gardeners set aside for
teachers. Less Orgain POC at plant sale in
spring.
○ Free worms to donate.
● Ashley Ault (Hampton HS)
○ Elementary outreach with Julie (Bryan)
○ Eco Club- Repairs to greenhouse
○ pollinator garden
○ Betsy oyster garden
○ recruited to maintain another garden
○ Next project: Recycle water bottles meeting
on the 30th.

○ Propagation and food garden in classroom.

○ Kinders above ground planters with mums
○ K-5 cardboard boxes decorated for paper
recycling. “ We CAN change the world!”
● Patricia Duncan (Aberdeen ES)
○ needs more trash cans due to using
recycling cans
● Michele Ferrel (Kilgore Gifted Center)
○ Coastal cleanup
○ rain garden back up
○ Oysters
○ Michelle won an environmental teacher
award*

○ Recycling survey closed down.

○ Wonderwalk- Decorate Christmas trees

○ BlueBird Gap Farm- Earth Day event April
22. Clean City Commission is the host.
Environmental Art Contest for Earth Day
December 8th at 4:15pm- Meeting to discuss and
plan.
● In-person displays in the community
promoting Clean City.
● Upcycle materials for projects sending info
to Art teachers. Best in Show.
