Page | Clean & Green Workplaces Meeting Notes 1 January 17, 2023, 3:00pm Members Present: Jim Williams, Chair; Barb Abraham; Debbie Blanton Also Present: Courtney Worrall, staff; Cynthia Harris, staff; Wendy Iles, staff (Zoom) Absent: Alex Maness; Irene Ferrainolo; Welcome & Roll Call Jim Williams welcomed attendees, roll call conducted. A quorum was present. Courtney took the meeting notes. If anyone has items for the agenda each month, please email them to either Jim or Courtney. Meeting notes On Friday, January 20 at 11am, the committee will be presenting the 2022 4th Quarter Clean & Green Award to Mr. Alfred Stein at Pac N Mail. Vice Mayor Jimmy Gray will be joining the committee at the presentation. The window cling for award winners was discussed and possibly making some design changes before deciding to order. The Hampton City Schools Print Shop has the ability to print the clings. The committee is looking at holding the Clean Business Forum breakfast on March 22, 2023. The committee will be looking for places to hold the Forum and someone to cater the food. Debbie made a motion to ask Chris Simmonds from Less Than to be the guest speaker, seconded by Barb and all approved. Jim will contact Mr. Simmonds to ask if he would be the speaker. Alfred Stein from Pac N Mail and Veronica Sommer from Sommer Freeze will be invited to attend. Ways to get nominations for Clean & Green businesses in Hampton: Send an email letter to the Clean City Commission Volunteer list asking if anyone has nomination ideas and sharing the link to enter the nomination online. Wendy can send an email to Marketing asking if it can be placed on the Hampton E- newsletter. Debbie came up with an email message to send out seeking nominations that contains the The Hampton Clean City Commission works to improve and enhance the physical environment of Hampton through beautification, solid waste management education, coastal awareness activities, and litter abatement programs; educates citizens; and encourages their participation. Page | 2 Some places to look into for possible Clean & Green awards are: Mercury Mulch & Garden Center, Nicholas & Meland Eye Care, 1865 Brewing Company, Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church. The committee discussed the idea of creating a survey to ask citizens if they know what items are for the recycle bin, which items are for the trash bin and which items are yard waste to be placed out on the curb for the big trucks to pick up. Debbie volunteered to create the questions for the survey. This will help citizens learn the differences of each and help with the upcoming fines for residents who violate ordinances regulating the collection of trash and recycling. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 4:07pm. Page | 2 HCCC Clean & Green Workplaces Committee Meeting Agenda Tuesday, January 17, 3:00pm HCCC Offices Agenda Welcome/Roll Call/Approval of November 2022 Minutes New Business/Discussion & Voting Items • We will discuss the Clean Business Forum Award, who will be at Pac ‘N’ Mail on the 20th and any last-minute details. • We need to find ways to get other nominees/winners (for example, the new car wash on Mercury Blvd). • The window cling that we talked about for award winners. Discuss the draft design that Cynthia sent to us. • Further discussion about public education on recycling and yard waste in Hampton to help inform the citizens. Whether we should develop a Survey Monkey Poll. • We will discuss the Clean Business Forum that will be held in Hampton in March.
