HCCC RESET RETREAT MINUTES Hampton Clean City Commission March 14, 2023 ~ 9am-3pm Attending: Jackie Cannan; Barb Abraham; Debbie Blanton; Linda Boone; Chris Bowman; Leslie Crandol; Chris Grady; Alex Maness; Betsy McAllister; Gayle Mooney; Pat Parker; April Receveur; Loye Spencer; Jim Williams; Cris Ausink; Wendy Iles; Courtney Worrall; C’Faison Harris Welcome: C’Faison welcomed everyone to the RESET and reminded all to sign in. Agenda: A brief history of HCCC/KAB/KVB was provided and segued into the first live video presentation with Keep Virginia Beautiful Programs Coordinator Tracey Leverty. Her presentation centered around Clean City’s newly awarded $5000 KAB Cigarette Litter Prevention Program Grant and program expectations. Afterwards, the group focused on reviewing commission goals from the past, present and future to determine what didn’t work, what is no longer relevant, and what goals are achievable in the short and long-term. After lunch, a second live video presentation was offered by Asha Ellen and Paul Bronson, Executive Director and 1 County Commissioner, respectively, of Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful from the great state of Georgia. They discussed what it means to be an actively engaged commission and introduced the “See-Click-Fix” program app that has been successfully used in their city/county. This app is somewhat similar to what Hampton’s 311 Customer Contact Center provides. After the presentation, each participant was asked to select at least one “Pick One – Do One” goal. Upon making a selection, they were to assume full responsibility for accomplishing said goal(s) - planning, recruitment, defining what resources would be needed, providing a time-line for accomplishing, and citing measurement tools and expected outcome(s) (see attachment). The last order of business was discussion of the April 22 Mosaic Festival where participants were asked to volunteer to man Clean City tents/booths. The request will also be made at the April 11 Full Commission meeting. Adjournment: 3:30pm. Sincerely: Thanks to everyone who participated and for those who were able to setup/breakdown for the event. Special thank you to Councilman Chris Bowman for his input and guidance, and to Sandy Bottom Nature Park for facility usage. None of this, however, would have been possible without the assistance of staff members Cris Ausink (setup/breakdown), Wendy Iles (audio visual), Courtney Worrall (procurement) – this is what teamwork looks like. Thank you. The Hampton Clean City Commission works to improve and enhance the physical environment of Hampton through beautification, solid waste management education, coastal awareness activities, and litter abatement programs; educates citizens; and encourages their participation. As an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful Inc., we share the philosophy that each of us has a responsibility for enhancing our community environment.
