Hampton Coliseum Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting – September 27, 2016 Attending: (A) = absent Woody Newman ( ) Matthew Ballard ( ) Bob Boester (A) Willie Brown ( ) Nellie Jo Yannarella (A) Lynne Hutton ( ) Joyce Melvin-Jones (A) Pam Lawson ( ) Patricia Melochick ( ) Ryan Lowrie ( ) Terri Vander Vennet ( ) Call to Order: At 12:21PM, Mr. Boester called the meeting to order. Reading/Approval of Minutes: Moved by Ms. Hutton and seconded by Ms. Lawson to approve the minutes of the June 28, 2016, meeting as presented. The motion passed unanimously. Chair Report/Announcement: Mr. Boester initiated discussion of terms expiring and recommended reappointing Mr. Ballard and Ms. Melvin- Jones. One committee member’s 2nd reappointed term is expiring and a new member will need to be appointed. Mr. Boester requested applications be pulled from the Board Bank by the Interim Director and emailed to committee members for review. Mr. Boester commented on the status of the proposed Virginia Beach Arena and the potential impact to the Coliseum. Mr. Boester asked for the Director’s report. Director’s Report: In the month of September 2016, the Coliseum will have had 15 event days and 13 performances and approx. 16,063 attendees including Cirque du Soleil 9/7-11/16 (6 event days, 7 performances, 10,063 people), Casey Auto Used Car Sale 9/15-18/16 (5 event days, 4 performances, 3k people), and Crawling Crab 9/24-25/16(3 event days, 2 performances, 3K people). Events in October are 92.1 The Beat Block Party, Equipovision Convention and Hampton Roads Soul Festival. Statement of Revenues and Expenses for the period ending 6/30/16 shows a positive change in Net Position for Fiscal Year 2016. Hampton Arts update – 16-17 Hampton Arts Season was announced July 11, 2016 at The American Theatre. Season Series packages went on sale July 19, 2016 and single event tickets went on sale August 1, 2016. The first event of the season was Up, Up, and Away featuring Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. on 9/24/16. Coliseum CIP project update – estimated EMV (credit card) project completion is anytime. We are waiting on Samsung to complete their programing changes. The Loge seats re-upholstery project has been awarded and should be completed in January. Part 1 of the end riser repair has been awarded and the 2 nd part will go to bid once specs are completed. Next potential projects being researched are I-64 Marquee, folding chair replacement and metal detectors. At the request of the City Manager, Advisory Committee Agendas and Meeting Minutes will be posted on the City’s website. Ms. Melochick, legal counsel, reviewed meeting protocols and procedures. 19-acre and 11-acre land update – none. Other Business: Due to scheduling conflicts, next month’s meeting may be scheduled at a different time and location. Notification will be sent out. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 1:06PM.
