Hampton Coliseum Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting – April 25, 2017

Call to Order/Reading and Approval of Minutes:
At 12:10p.m., Chair Boester called the meeting to order.
Motion made by Ms. Lawson to approve the minutes of the March 28, 2017 meeting. Mr. Brown seconded. The motion
passed.
Chair Report/Announcement:
Nothing to Report.
Director’s Report:
Ms. Vander Vennet stated in the month of March ‘17 had 7 event days and 5 performances with 27,332
attendees. The month of April ’17 had 8 event days and 10 performances with 47,905 attendees.
Upcoming events for May are Casey Auto Spring Car Sale, Thomas Nelson Community College Graduation,
We Are One Mother’s Day Celebration and The Chainsmokers.
Statement of Revenues and Expenses for the period ending 3/28/17 shows the Coliseum behind compared to
this same period 3/31/16 although doubled Circus attendance has lessened the gap.
The American Theatre has two performances left in the 2016-2017 season. We have already outsold last
season by $10,527 with 5 less events this season. The 2017-2018 season announces June 15, 2017. Ms.
Vander Vennet gave a sneak peak of some of the events for the upcoming season.
Ms. Vander Vennet gave an update on Coliseum CIP projects. EMV chip reader (credit card) installation is complete.
The contract for the hand rails for the end riser is being circulated for signatures and the beam repair project begins
5/17/17.
Old Business:
Chair Boester stated the committee is now going into a closed meeting pursuant to Virginia Code Section 2.2-
3711 (A)(7) for a consultation with legal counsel regarding specific matters requiring legal advice related to
intellectual property and Virginia Code Section 2.2-3711(A)(6) for discussion or consideration of the investment
of public funds where competition or bargaining is involved, where if made public initially, the financial interest of
the government unit would be adversely affected. A motion of approval was made by Mr. Ballard and seconded
by Ms. Lawson. Unanimous consent was given.
Closed Session Conducted.
Ms. Vander Vennet stated it is now appropriate to take a roll call vote and that to the best of our knowledge (i)
only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements under this chapter, and (ii) only
such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which the Closed Meeting was convened were
heard, discussed, or considered in the Closed Meeting. Any member who believes there was a departure from
the requirements of subdivisions (i) and (ii) shall so state prior to the roll call vote, indicating the substance of the
departure that, in his/her judgement has taken place. Such statements shall be recorded in the minutes. No
statements were made. Motion was made by Ms. Lawson and seconded by Mr. Lowrie. Unanimous consent
was given.
