Hampton Coliseum Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting – January 23, 2018

Call to Order/Reading and Approval of Minutes:
At 12:11p.m., Chair Boester called the meeting to order.
Motion made by Mr. Newman to approve the minutes of the November 28, 2017 meeting. Mr. Jenrette seconded. The
motion passed.
Chair Report/Announcement:
Chair Boester welcomed new committee member Samantha Snead.
Director’s Report:
Ms. Vander Vennet shared the Coliseum/Hampton Arts Holiday Party was held December 14, 2017 and had
177 attendees. Many attendees commented that they enjoyed the event being held in the lobby and the festive
atmosphere.
December ’17 had 2 event days. Allen Iverson Reebok Holiday Crossover Showcase (1 day with, 813 in
attendance) and Coliseum/Hampton Arts Holiday Cheer Jingle and Mingle with 177 in attendance.
Upcoming Events: Monster Jam (Jan 19-21), Equipovision (Feb 1-4).
Statement of Revenues (combined budget since 7/1/13). FY18 has had 30 event days and 27 performances
with 123,998 attendees and 1.9 million in revenues vs FY17 with 36 event days and 35 performances with
105,113 in attendance and 1.1 million in revenues.
November ’17 had 7 event days and 10 performances with 28,739 in attendance. Momma’s Boy had 1 event
day with 3,458 in attendance and Disney on Ice had 6 event days and 9 performances with 25,123 in
attendance.
Statement of Revenues and Expenses for the period ending 12/31/17 shows the Coliseum with a negative
change in net position for the 2018 Fiscal Year. Compared to FY17, we are $251k ahead of this time last year.
Ms. Vander Vennet updated the committee on the ice floor repair and shared that Public Works will be taking core soil
samples from the I-64 lot and the Best lot.
Other Business:
Chair Boester stated the committee is now going into a closed meeting pursuant to Virginia Code Section 2.2-
3711 (A)(8) for a consultation with legal counsel regarding specific matters requiring legal advice related to
intellectual property and pursuant to Virginia Code Section 2.2-3711(A)(6) to discuss the investment of public
funds where competition or bargaining is involved, where if made public initially, the financial interest of the
governmental unit would be adversely affected. A motion of approval was made by Mr. Jenrette and seconded
by Mr. Perry. A roll call vote was conducted and unanimous consent was given.
Doors were closed and closed meeting sign posted. Closed Session Conducted.
Ms. Vander Vennet stated it is now appropriate to take a roll call vote and that to the best of our knowledge (i)
only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements under this chapter, and (ii) only
such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which the Closed Meeting was convened were
heard, discussed, or considered in the Closed Meeting. Any member who believes there was a departure from
the requirements of subdivisions (i) and (ii) shall so state prior to the roll call vote, indicating the substance of the
departure that, in his/her judgement has taken place. Such statements shall be recorded in the minutes. No
statements were made. Motion was made by Mr. Newman and seconded by Mr. Perry. A roll call vote was
conducted and unanimous consent was given. Doors were opened and closed meeting sign removed.

Meeting was adjourned at 1:08 p.m.

Next Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at 12 noon at the Embassy Suites.
