Hampton Coliseum Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting – January 22, 2019

Call to Order/Reading and Approval of Minutes:
At 12:04p.m., Chair Boester called the meeting to order.
Motion made by Mr. Lowrie to approve the minutes of the November 27, 2018 meeting. Mr. Jenrette seconded. The
motion passed.
Chair Report/Announcement:
Chair Boester welcomed two new committee members; Matt Joyner and Anne Rutherford. Chair Boester lead a
discussion regarding the current status of the Richmond Coliseum and that they have closed their doors despite
no date set for demolition or a finalized rebuilding plan. Chair Boester gave a quick review of Hampton
Coliseum management structure and meeting structure for new members.
Director’s Report:
Ms. Vander Vennet reviewed event statistics for the months of November and December, discussed future
event bookings in the works, and received comments from the committee regarding past patron event surveys.
Other Business:
Officer Election nominations were discussed and a motion made by Mr. Lowry that Mr. Boester retain the
chairman position. The motion was seconded by Ms. Snead and passed unanimously. A motion was made by
Chair Boester that Mr. Newman be appointed as Vice Chairman. The motion was seconded by Mr. Lowry and
passed unanimously.
New Business:
Chair Boester led a discussion on ideas for the Coliseum’s 50th Anniversary year. Ideas included a
Spring/Summer celebration party, petitioning for license plates with the 50th logo, and an artist series
commemorative print(s) including past sports, music, and entertainment held at the Coliseum. Suggestion was
made to inquire if the History Museum had any pictures, articles, etc. on the Coliseum, to search the live event
archive online and Daily Press for items, and to look at what was done to celebrate the 20th, 30th, and 40th
milestones.

Meeting was adjourned at 12:58 p.m.
Next Meeting:
Next Meeting is currently scheduled for Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at 12 noon at The Grey Goose’s boardroom.
