Hampton Coliseum Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes – September 22, 2020 Attending: (A) = absent Bob Boester ( ) Willie Brown (A) Asa Jenrette ( ) Matt Joyner ( ) Ryan Lowrie ( ) Woody Newman ( ) Anne Rutherford ( ) Samantha Snead ( ) Andrew Wilson ( ) Terri Vander Vennet ( ) Peter O’Donnell ( ) Benjamin Naidorf (A) Call to Order/Reading and Approval of Minutes: At 12:05 p.m., Chair Boester called the meeting to order. Motion was made by Mr. Wilson to approve the Minutes from the June 16, 2020 meeting. Ms. Rutherford seconded and the motion passed. Chair Report/Announcements: Chair Boester welcomed everyone and asked for a recap of the success of the Coliseum’s Pop Up Drive-In movies. Mr. O’Donnell gave an overview of the attendance and popularity of the films. Director’s Report: Ms. Vander Vennet gave an overview of the financial profit of the drive-in movies and the future drive-in rental events it has spurred for Coliseum Central’s Holiday Extravaganza and other corporate events. Events scheduled for December 2020 – June 2021 were reviewed. Ms. Vander Vennet announced the Coliseum would be receiving a portion of the City’s CARES funds for purchase of COVID-19 related equipment to include bike rack, stanchions, walk through metal detectors, temperature screening devices, touchless restroom fixtures, a POS system for mobile ordering, and upgrades to the Wi-Fi infrastructure to support the new equipment. Other Business: Applications from the Board Bank were discussed for the two vacancies coming up due to the expiration of Mr. Newman and Mr. Lowry’s terms, effective December 31, 2020. A motion was made Mr. Newman to recommend selected candidates and seconded by Mr. Wilson. The motion passed unanimously. A letter of Recommendation will be written by Chair Boester and Ms. Vander Vennet and sent to the City Council for consideration prior to the December Council meeting. New Business: Mr. Newman recommended the staff look into the ability to do live concerts in the I-64 lot, drive-in style, for local artists. Mr. Newman shared other venues in Richmond and Charlotte that have had success. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 12:42 pm.
