Hampton Coliseum Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes Special Meeting - Hampton Jazz & Music Festival November 4, 2024 4:00 PM Attending Members: Linda Curtis Vice-Chair, Ryan Lowrie, Chair, Karen Scott, Andrew Wilson, Bob Boester, Emeritus Not Attending: Lynne Hutton Joyce Melvin-Jones, Matt Joyner, Woody Newman, Brad Young, Ben Naidorf, Legal Staff Members: Visitors: Terri Vander Vennet, Director Charlie Gardner, Deputy Director Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 4:00 PM by Chairman Lowrie. Discussion: The Committee met to discuss the performance of the Hampton Jazz & Music Festival and provide input for its continued viability. Ms. Vander Vennet provided financial information to members for years 2003 - 2024, which included gross revenues and expenses, partner shares, event profit, tickets sold, and attendance. Members provided the following input: • Artist performances need to be high energy. • All live performances, no music tracks. • Look at the potential of having a specific genre for each night. • Drop one artist to reduce costs and use a headliner, one support act, and a local opening act. • Ask HU to poll the students for artists that would pull a younger audience. • Target artists that the 50 - 60 age group wants to hear to build the audience base - favorite acts of the 80’s & 90’s. • Look at adding a Thursday Hip-Hop artist.
