MINUTES Hampton Neighborhood Commission Meeting Community Development Conference Room, City Hall July 9, 2012 Time 6:00-8:00pm Present Ann Bane, School Rep. Valerie Twine, District 2 Guests I. Opening Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:00pm A. Roll Call and Verification of Quorum Quorum verified. B. Pledge of Allegiance 1 C. Approval of Minutes of the June 11, 2012, 2012 Neighborhood Commission Meeting The Chair asked for consideration of the minutes for the June 11 2012 Neighborhood Commission meeting. Approval of the minutes included a change to the attendance list adding Sadie Boone. Antonio Davis made a motion to approve the minutes. Henry Mills seconded the motion. The Chair called for a vote. Chair voiced, “All in favor please say aye.” Response, “aye.” Chair voiced, “Opposed?” Response – none. Minutes approved. D. Chair Announcements E. Youth Report- No report F. No items from the public A representative from Hampton Roads Transportation and Planning was in attendance. II. Actions (New Business) Item A. Briefing on Joint Council Meetings • Executive Committee members who attended the joint City Council meetings briefly summarized the results of the meetings. Staff also provided notes from the discussions. The common themes from the discussion were highlighted; Visibility, Voice and Resource o Visibility- Increase the Commission visibility in the community. o Voice- Be a positive voice for neighborhoods. Highlight good things happening in the community. o Resource- Look for ways the Commission can serve as a resource and be helpful to the community. Item B. Discussion regarding Composition and Structure • Jonathan McBride facilitated a process which included group work to discuss composition and structure of the Neighborhood Commission. • Commissioners were broken up into four groups to prioritize strategies and to discuss composition. 2 • Commissioners decided at the end of the discussion that the special work session planned for July 16, 2012 was still needed. The discussion will be continued on July 16, 2012. Results of the group work are attached. IV. Dialogue A. Matters by Commissioners None B.
