Y. Gaynor presented the marketing materials and application for the Senior Citizenship Award.
Copies will be made and distributed to all of the community centers in Hampton as well as the
Department of Social Services, senior living communities and other civic organizations. She
noted that there will be one award for each age group represented (70s, 80s and 90s) and that the
subcommittee will review the applications and make a recommendation to the general committee
for awards.
G. Gwynn, Jr., inquired about persons nominated post-humously. The committee voted to
nominate only living seniors.
It was agreed that each committee member would review nomination documents within 24 hours
and make any suggestions for edits to G. Jones. Members also agreed to each make at least one
nomination.
Committee members, D. Farmer and S. Drew will host a table for SCAC at the Senior Safety
Summit in October. Citizen R. Gabriel volunteered to serve at the table. S. Drew requested that
members hosting the table would be mindful to let visitors take as much as they want of SCAC
giveaways.
Concern was expressed that more seniors are not coming out to meetings. G. Lewis noted that
announcements are sent to senior living communities.
B. Stewart will provide an update on any names submitted to the City for membership in SCAC.
The next meeting will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 2nd, 2017 at the Senior Center.
