Meeting Minutes
Due to time constraints, the subcommittee was unable to meet; however, an annual report
draft was distributed to the PRLS Director, SCAC Chair, and committee members and is
attached to this document. It will be reviewed at the September 12 meeting for approval
and submission.

2022 ANNUAL REPORT (DRAFT)
MISSION
The Hampton Senior Citizens Advisory Committee (HSCAC) advocates, arranges and
coordinates senior-related services to make Hampton the community of choice for seniors.
Agencies represented include: Hampton Human Services, the Peninsula Agency on Aging, the
Peninsula Foster Grandparents Program, and Hampton Parks, Recreation, & Leisure Services.
MEETINGS
Meetings are held the first Monday of each month, beginning at 10a.m. at the Hampton Senior
Center, located at 2501 Kecoughtan Road, Hampton, VA 23663.
BOARD
HSCAC has eleven (11) active board members serving 2-year term limits. It has a Chair, Vice
Chair, and Recording Secretary. Its sponsoring agency is the Hampton Parks, Recreation, &
Leisure Services.
SUBCOMMITTEES
Annual Senior Awards Event: HSCAC and Hampton Senior Center recognizes those seniors
who contribute greatly to their community through an annual Senior Citizens Awards event.
This event is supported in partnership with HPRLS and its leadership affiliates. Currently
nominees must be Hampton residents, be between the ages of 70 and 90, and have enhanced
their communities through their life’s work, volunteerism, and positive engagement with
others.
Annual Report: This committee’s function is to prepare an annual report for submission to
City Council. This report would include all activities during the previous year and all expenses,
donations, etc.
Hospitality: This committee welcomes new members, promotes fellowship through the
organization, coordinates public outreach activities.
Mayor’s Town Hall: The Mayor’s Town hall is an opportunity for the Mayor to interact with
Hampton Seniors and guests to discuss ways in which the City is supporting Senior services. It
is also a vehicle that allows Seniors to ask questions, offer suggestions and ideas that can help
the City facilitate proposed programs more efficiently. Please note that the Hampton Senior
Citizen Advisory Council provides, advocates, arranges and coordinates senior-related services

to make Hampton the community of choice for seniors. Agencies represented include
Hampton Human Services, Peninsula Agency on Aging, Peninsula Foster Grandparents
Program, and Hampton Parks Recreation & Leisure Services.
Senior Residential Living: This committee was formed to increase communication and
collaboration between and participation of seniors living in residential complexes and the
Advisory Committee. Meeting goals are:
to get more people involved between management and residents
obtain a listing of senior residential housing in the Hampton area
have residential managers select 2 residents to attend HSCAC meetings and advocate
on behalf of seniors in their complexes
business cards
planning for outreach opportunities
issues with city services/packaging-mailing services
welcome packages for new residents to introduce them to HSCAC
Speakers Bureau: This committee function is to create a listing of pertinent speakers to
present at HSCAC board meetings and submit those names to the Lead Agency for scheduling
in addition to preparing SCAC members to present for public outreach purposes.
