Call to Order – Chair Tripp called the meeting to order at 12:15pm II. Introductions - Chair Tripp requested everyone introduce themselves for the good of the group III. Approve February 11 , 2020 Meeting Minutes – Ann Bane moved, Elizabeth Yimer seconded and the minutes were unanimously approved as presented V. Strategic Direction Subcommittees Goals & Objectives Update Economic Development/Student Retention – Steve Lynch advised the subcommittee is still in the planning stages of a fall Internship Fair; the Intern Directory has approximately 59 businesses; the group will partner with Virginia Commonwealth STEM Industry Internship Program to combine directories; the committee will resurrect previous plans to hold a fall pep rally since last year’s inaugural attempt was thwarted by the threat of a hurricane VI. Key Updates Since the February 11 , 2020 Meeting Ann mentioned that Dr. Smith was one of four finalists for National Superintendent of the Year but while he was not selected, Hampton Public Schools is very proud of his standing in the competition; the schools office is heavily advertising the Hampton 2020 Census; information regarding COVID-19 is available on the health & services page of the Hampton City Schools website; a robo call survey regarding distance learning and Hampton citizens access to the internet will be conducted in the near future Elizabeth advised she met with the new interim president of Thomas Nelson Community College to discuss how to end the stigma surrounding community colleges; the internship fair being planned has been postponed due to the spread of COVID-19 and a new date will be announced as soon as possible; there are plans being made for an Earth Day celebration, a faculty & staff appreciation day, and a Student Government Association awareness event Giuseppe distributed a Giaimo Management Events flyer for March events: Barron Elementary McTeacher’s Night, 5-8pm March 10; 217 Fox Hill Road Booker Elementary McTeacher’s Night, 5-7pm March 17; 217 Fox Hill Road Hampton Police Division LEU Spirit Night, 6-8pm March 18; 4045 W Mercury Boulevard Coffee with a Cop, 6-8pm March 18; 4045 W Mercury Boulevard Cpt John Smith Elementary McTeacher’s Night, 5-7pm March 24; 217 Fox Hill Road Novelle noted the Black Family Conference will be held March 11-13, the 150th Anniversary of Hampton University Choirs will be held April 17-19; some study abroad students have returned home due to the COVID-19 threat; more information regarding COVID-19 is available on the HU website Darren announced the Spring Home Repair Blitz has been moved to October; the annual city codes academy, a 7-week citizens academy for volunteer codes inspectors, is in progress Beth advised Thomas Nelson Community College is on spring break this week; 2020 registration schedule: summer priority registration March 23-29; summer open registration March 30; there is another Pop-Up Closet scheduled for April Toni announced the Phoebus Dock Party & Sock Burning, 12-5p March 21 at the Phoebus Waterfront Park will include live entertainment, beer, children’s activities, seafood and a dock donation Steve Bond noted the City is in budget season and hosting the following community input sessions: Facebook Live 630-8p, March 12 Sandy Bottom Nature Park In-person 930-1130a, March 14 Facebook Live 1130a-1p, March 17 Oozlefinch Brewery (Fort Monroe) 530-7p, March 19; Count Me In, Hampton! 2020 census kick-off event 1-3p March 14 at Towne Square in Peninsula Town Center, visit www.hampton.gov/cernsus to learn more  about the 2020 Census in Hampton; and there are several links for more information regarding COVID-19 at https://hampton.gov/3711/Coronavirus- Questions-and-Answers Gary Hunter announced Hampton University’s 15th Annual Easter by-the-Bay egg-stravaganza 12-3p Saturday, April 11 at Strawberry Banks; the annual Proton Therapy Institute Gala of Hope will be held 6-11p April 18 at Hampton Roads Convention Center Eric noted a Healthcare Careers Dine & Discuss event will be held 6-8p today at the Hampton Campus; registration for May 6 classes will begin March 23; he thanked Robin McCormick for her Round Robin piece featuring the state-of-the- art e-sports arena at Bryant & Stratton; commencement will take place May 2 at the Hampton University Convocation Center; Eric will be working from home for 2-3 months following an upcoming surgical procedure and Angela Haywood will attend the Town & Gown Committee meetings in his place Steve Lynch advised Economic Development Department is experiencing a robust roster of activity and prospects and hopes to make some major announcements in the near future Raymond reiterated the Count Me In, Hampton census kick-off event March 14 at Peninsula Town Center VII.
