Guthrie Memorial Library Board of Governors Meeting February 8, 2024 Attendance: Nat Fissel, Dan Frey, Andy Smith, Barb Hentz, Eric Klansek, Chrissy Rosensteel, Steve Sherman, Barb Eisenhart (Teams), Tara Kauffman, Lizzy Baldwin, Margaret Lewis (from Hanover Borough), Barb Carbaugh, Bobbi Little (teams) The meeting was called to order at 12:16 PM by Chrissy Rosensteel Approval of January 2024 Minutes: Approved with a motion by Nat, and a second by Andy. The minutes were approved. Committee Reports: Nominating: Barb Carbaugh shared that the Mayor had a different name than Bobbi Little’s name on the borough council meeting minutes. Margie shared that there were other people that were interested in the position. There will be someone appointed at the February meeting. There are currently four names that are being considered. Bobbi Little has been an excellent BOG member and has served on the BOG previously. Honors/ Aristotle: No Report was given. Public Relations: Andy Smith shared that if anyone is interested in being on the committee, please reach out to him. Report of the Director: Tara and Lizzy are looking at a kiosk that will be tied into Explore York. They will collect information from that kiosk. Lizzy is looking at updating the patron behavior policy. Tara and Lizzy visited the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs. A class will be offered in March. It is called Friends and Trustees Institute. The class is being offered on Saturday, March 23 from 9:15-2:15 PM. There is a group that is interested in giving money to the library. The group is ABATE. They are a local biking group that promotes education. The program would be ‘Books with Bikers’. Yearly stats are attached to the Director’s Report. All of the statistics are on the rise. Fundraising Report: $26,000 was raised for the Honor’s Event. Tara is looking at a grant for the visitor’s center. The paperwork was completed for the Wetzel Estate last week. Tara is going to make it a priority to attend the municipality meetings to ask for changes in 2025. HPLA Investment Committee: Dan reported that the statement is attached to the packet. There was a slight increase in the investments since January. Borough Manager Report: There was a question raised about when the library lease will take effect. Margaret shared that it is a fluid process. She is working with Lizzy to set up these timelines. Margaret shared that the lawyers are meeting to discuss the Orphans Court decision. She believes that there will be a decision made before the end of February. Dan Frey asked why spend the money on construction before a decision is made. Margaret shared that the lawyers assured them that there would be no issues regarding the move. YCL: No report was given Library – YCL Update: On February 12, there is a meeting (in person or zoom) to develop the action plan. Chrissy is meeting with staff to think out the entire process. The meeting will take place in the board room. Friends of the Library: Barb shared that the Friends treasurer is struggling with some of the finances. Barb shared that they are looking for a treasurer. A new vice president was just brought on to the group. Last year, there was an income of $37,000. Barb shared that she is doing $5 February drive. She has raised over $2000 with this event. Old Business: No old business was addressed at this time. New Business: The Patron Code of Conduct Policy and Locker Policy were shared and Chrissy asked if the group could look at these and we can vote on both of them at the next meeting in March. Lizzy was looking at installing 9 lockers for patrons. It will be assessed if more lockers would be needed following a period of time. The committee discussed several safety concerns (panic button, motion sensors, and patrons here after hours). Public Comment: No comments were received. The meeting was adjourned at 1:12 PM The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday- March 14, 2024, @ 12:15 PM.
