VILLAGE OF HANOVER PARK CULTURAL INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY COMMITTEE/COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING Village Hall Room 214 2121 W. Lake St. Hanover Park, IL 60133 Tuesday, March 12, 2024 6:15 p.m. Minutes 1. CALL TO ORDER - ROLL CALL Meeting was called to order by Chairperson Grace Khan at 6:22pm PRESENT: Committee Members:, Grace Khan, Board Liaison Liza Gutierrez, , Valeria Aguilera, Zach Levy, and Adelita Molina Zeier ABSENT: Committee Members: Jesus Salazar. Victoria Akinde, Dennis Haffron and Debra McDonald OTHER: Jazmin Lopez, Barry Kurcz (Staff Liaison) 2. ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA Grace Khan motioned to accept the agenda Zach Levy seconded the acceptance. Roll Call Vote – All Ayes Motion Carried 3. PRESENTATIONS/ REPORTS: 3-a. None 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: 4-a. Approval of February 20, 2024 Meeting Minutes Grace Khan motioned to accept the minutes Zach Levy seconded the acceptance. Roll Call Vote – All Ayes Motion Carried 5. ACTION ITEMS: 5-a. Honoring Women Leaders: A Community Tribute planning – April 16th  The committee reviewed potential 5 panelists and questions. Identified which questions would be asked of all and which ones would be open to the entire group of panelists. Trustee Gutierrez would do welcome and introductions. Staff Liaison confirmed that appetizers, dessert and drinks would be ordered. Trustee Gutierrez offered to table scape the tables of food on the day of the event. 5-b. Celebrating Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage planning – May 21st Trustee Gutierrez suggested that we could use Tiki Terrace and possibly use their food truck and have a Luau themed event. After further discussion, the cost of a food truck and minimal order ruled it out as an option. We would get a quote on appetizers instead. Trustee Gutierrez reached out to the owner Phil and included the Staff Liaison to work out the details of the quote. Additional food options discussed were snacks/desserts from restaurants such as NeeHees or Zen Ramen. Additional discussion included possible traditional Filipino stick dancing, dressing in traditional clothing and reaching out to Dr. Ma, Ontarioville principal to involve elementary school children possibly making “fact sheets” about different Asian and Pacific Islander cultures represented in Hanover Park. 5-c. Hispanic Heritage Month planning – October 1st Zach offered to reach out to US Representative Delia Ramirez to possibly be a keynote type speaker for the event. Food and entertainment was discussed next. Suggestion was to have 6-8 restaurants explaining their food and the region in which it originated. Another thought was to have art displays, story books in English and Spanish and different speakers. There was one suggestion having someone speak about DACA from their personal perspective. Flags representing countries of Hispanic Heritage are to be displayed. Adelita’s dance group will be performing at the event. The event name chosen is “Celebrando Nuestra Cultura” –“Celebrating Our Culture”. The date was moved to Friday, September 27th from 6-8pm to maximize attendance. 6. TOWNHALL SESSION: Persons wishing to address the public body must register prior to Call to Order. Please note that public comment is limited to 5 minutes per speaker. None 7.
