City Hall City of Harrisonburg 409 South Main Street Harrisonburg, VA 22801 Meeting Minutes - Final Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission Monday, October 17, 2022 7:00 PM Price Rotary Senior Center 1. Meeting Called To Order A meeting of the Harrisonburg Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission was held on Monday October 17, 2022 at 7 p.m. at the Price Rotary Senior Center. Obie Hill called the meeting to order with the following commission members present: Obie Hill, Chance Ebersold, Sandy Bopp, Deanna Reed, and MuAwia DaMes. Present from Parks and Recreation were Brian Mancini, Connie Lawson, Scott Erickson, Andrew “AJ” Morris, and Matt Muterspaugh. I. Welcome - Obie Hill welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. 2. Approval of September Meeting Minutes II. Approval of September Meeting Minutes- Deanna Reed motioned to approve the September minutes. Chance Ebersold seconded the motion. The September 2022 minutes were approved by a unanimous vote. Director’s Report & Project Updates- Brian Mancini a. The Half Marathon Race this past weekend went well. With over 660 racers and hundreds of spectators. b. On Thursday, October 20, 2022, we will be lighting up the Lucy F. Simms Continuing Education Center, the Cecil F. Gilkerson Activities Center, the Parkview Administration Building, Denton Park, and the Gus Bus for the Lights on Afterschool Initiative. c. The hiring process is going outstanding with only one full time position still open. We still need custodians and part timers. d. Planning is starting for the Holiday Parade, on Saturday, December 3, 2022. This event will be in conjunction with Winter Wonderfest. 4. Action Items 4.a. Upcoming Events-Holiday Parade-Saturday, December 3, 2022 5. General Public Comments V. General Public Comments: a. No public comment. VI. PRAC Questions/Comments-Highlighted Questions/Comments: a. Can the department accommodate a rec room at the CAC where kids that do not play sports can hang out? This rec room could include foosball, bumper pool, pool, air hockey, ping pong, board games, and couches. Response: The Programming Staff will be consulted on finding ways this can be done. 6. Next PRAC Meeting-November 21, 2022, location TBD VII. Next PRAC Meeting - The next meeting will be held at the Lucy F. Simms Continuing Education Center on November 21, 2022. 7. Adjourn VIII.
