STATED TOWN BOARD MEETING APRIL 2, 20 I 9 The Town Board of the Town of Hempstead, New York, met at the Town Meeting Pavilion, Hempstead Town Hall, I Washington Street, Hempstead, New York, on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 10:30AM. RA, Town Attorney KEVIN CONROY, Town Comptroller Supervisor Gillen honored students of the Elmont Memorial High School Model U.N. Team: Nneka Emeagwali; Faith Greene; Munahil Sultana; Britney Bennett; Gloria Greene; Nicole Jean-Pierre; Jorvany Jean; Preston Pressoir; Janice Erhunmwunsee; Orobo Ogbovoh. These young scholars achieved an outstanding performance at the 31st International Model United Nations Conference hosted by the prestigious University of Chicago. All ten members of the delegation received a committee award. Eight Elmont students won I st Place and two Elmont students won 2nd Place in their committees. The team was given a citation and congratulated on their victory, along with Faculty Advisor, Nkenge Gilliam; Chaperone, Phillip Cabrera as well as Principal Kevin Dougherty. Supervisor Gillen asked Councilman Dunne to lead the assemblage in the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. Councilman Blakeman requested a moment of silence in memory of Arlene Howard, who passed away this week at age 95, mother of Port Authority police officer and September 11th first responder George Howard, she was a World War Veteran and one of the first woman to be accepted into the U.S. Navy.
