CITY OF HENDERSON COMMEMORATIVE BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION MINUTES December 8, 2014 I. CALL TO ORDER Vice-Chairman Denise Olsen called the Commemorative Beautification Commission Meeting to order at 5:32 p.m., at 105 W. Basic Road, in the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office Conference Room. II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL Present: Rosa Herwick Debra Jacobson Jennifer Lewis Denise Olsen Absent: Chairman John Casanova Ed Long (resigned) Kapua Maruyama (excused) Staff: Kirk Niemand, Park Operation Manager Monica Rivera, Recording Secretary Guest: Debbi Gold III. PUBLIC COMMENT Debbi Gold introduced herself and thanked the commission for inviting her to participate on the lights tour. IV. ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA (Motion) Ms. Herwick introduced a motion to accept the agenda as presented, seconded by Ms. Lewis. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. NEW BUSINESS 1 MINUTES NOVEMBER 18, 2014 PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Adopt the minutes of November 18, 2014 meeting. (Motion) Ms. Lewis introduced a motion to approve the minutes of November 18, 2014, as presented, seconded by Ms. Herwick. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Vice-Chairman Olsen declared the motion carried. 2 STAFF REPORTS PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Staff representative will provide information on the Commission Budget, Urban Forestry Report, Clean-up Trailer Program, Banners and Flags, Holiday Decorating Contest, Arbor Day, and Staff Announcements. Kirk Niemand, Park Operation Manager, reviewed the budget expenses from Make a Difference Day. He informed the commission that all Christmas banners have been hung. Mr. Niemand reported that he met with the high schools to discuss the Banner contest. Green Valley and Basic high schools have decided to participate in the contest. The teachers have requested that the students paint directly on the banners to work on scaling. The commission will provide the schools with the paint and blank banners. The banners will be hung around March or April for one month. 3 COMMUNITY PRIDE PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Discuss and approve Community Pride Award nominations. Staff reported that no nominations were submitted for the Community Pride Award. Commemorative Beautification Commission Page 3 of 3 December 8, 2014 – Minutes 4 VOLUNTEER HOURS PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Commission members report the number of volunteer hours they completed for the month. Ms. Herwick reported two hours; Ms. Jacobson reported one hour; Ms. Lewis reported one hour; and Ms. Olsen reported zero hours. VI. CHAIRMAN\MEMBER COMMENTS No comments were presented by the members. VII. SET NEXT MEETING The next meeting was scheduled for January 13, 2015, at 6:00 p.m., in the Facilities Management Building. VIII. PUBLIC COMMENT No comments were presented by the public. IX.
