Wednesday, December 14, 2022
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Joanna Gerali called the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission meeting to
order at 4:00 p.m., at the Heritage Park Senior Facility, 300 South Racetrack
Road, Henderson, Nevada 89015.
II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL
Anthony Rossa, Administrative Assistant III, confirmed the Senior Citizens
Advisory Commission meeting had been noticed in compliance with the Nevada
Open Meeting Law.

IV. ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA
(Motion)
Member Delwin Potter introduced a motion to accept the agenda, as amended:
Item 6 will be heard immediately following Item 4; followed by Item 5.
The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chair Joanna Gerali declared the
motion carried.

Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting minutes of November 9, 2022.
Member Richard Berman said regarding the Chairman\Member Comments,
“Assisted Living Facility” should be removed, and “Senior Citizens Advisory
Commission” should be replaced with “Parks and Recreation Department.”

Member Audrey Woods introduced a motion to adopt the Senior Citizens
Advisory Commission Meeting minutes of November 9, 2022, as amended.
The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chair Joanna Gerali declared the
motion carried.
2 AUTHORIZE PARTICIPATION BY SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY
COMMISSION MEMBERS AT UPCOMING EVENTS FROM DECEMBER 15,
2022, TO JANUARY 10, 2023.
PARKS AND RECREATION
Commission members will discuss and approve whether Commissioners may
officially attend or participate in upcoming community programs or events as a
representative of the Commission for December 15, 2022, to January 10, 2023.
Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, presented a summary of this item
and provided the locations for the Christmas Tree Recycling Program.

Member Steve Boyce introduced a motion to accept the calendar of events, as
presented, supporting the interest of any Commissioners to attend any of the
upcoming events from December 15, 2022, to January 10, 2023. The vote
favoring approval was unanimous. Chair Joanna Gerali declared the motion
carried.
3 SENIOR AUXILIARY PRESENTATION
PARKS AND RECREATION
Linda Rauenbuehler, Henderson Seniors' Auxiliary, will give a report on the
activities of the organization.
Linda Rauenbuehler, Henderson Seniors’ Auxiliary was not present at the
meeting; therefore, this item was not heard. Corey Clark, Recreation Services
Manager, stated Ms. Rauenbuehler will be back in January, which will be her
last meeting. He said staff is working with the Henderson Seniors' Auxiliary to
fill her upcoming vacancy.
4 STAFF REPORT
PARKS AND RECREATION
Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, will give an update on recent events
at the Heritage Park Senior Facility and the Downtown Senior Center.
Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, gave an update on the congregate
meal program and said it is up by 20 percent from this time last year.
Mr. Clark said the third annual drive-thru holiday event, Jingle All The Way
Event, will take place on from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Heritage Park Senior
Facility, and encouraged the Commissioners to partake in the festivities
immediately following the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting.
Lastly, Mr. Clark stated staff will be hosting a retirement party for Sue Bobby,
Recreation Services Supervisor, at the Downtown Senior Center on
January 12, 2022, at approximately 12:30 p.m., and invited the Commissioners
to attend. He said Ms. Bobby’s favorite meal will be provided to all the
attendees and said dessert will also be served.

5 HENDERSON AGE FRIENDLY ACTION PLAN UPDATE
PARKS AND RECREATION
Jonathan Rodriguez, Planner II from the City of Henderson Community
Development & Services Department, will present on the Henderson Age
Friendly Action Plan Update. Discussion will revolve around the following AARP
Domain of Livability: Civic Participation and Employment. Commissioners will
review the goals of the current Plan and provide staff feedback on any potential
modifications to the goals of the Henderson Age Friendly Action Plan Update.
Note: This item was heard following Item 6.
Jonathan Rodriguez, Planner II, presented a summary of this item and led the
discussion to assist the Commissioners to determine if any goals in the current
AARP Domain of Livability: Civic Participation and Employment should be
closed out, continued, and/or added as part of the Henderson Age Friendly Plan
Update.
Member Roop Raich expressed the difficulties may employers are facing when
trying to fill open positions and discussed the benefits of employing senior
citizens in today’s job market.
Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, stated within the next year, staff
could conduct a poll of the recreational facility participants to determine how
many seniors would be interested in employment opportunities. He also said
the Community Development and Services Department conducts a city-wide
survey for all Henderson residents once every few years that could include that
poll as well.
A brief discussion ensued regarding volunteer opportunities for senior citizens,
which Mr. Clark stated could be a topic for a future agenda.
6 DOWNTOWN SENIOR CENTER MURAL ARTIST PROPOSAL REVIEW AND
FEEDBACK

The City of Henderson has received an AARP Community Challenge Grant to
support the installation of two artistic murals at the Henderson Downtown Senior
Center. Jonathan Rodriguez, Planner II, in the Community Development &
Services Department, will facilitate a group review of artist proposals for the
murals. Commission members will each provide Mr. Rodriguez feedback on
each proposal.

Jonathan Rodriguez, Planner II, presented a summary of this item and
facilitated a group review of the proposals by asking each member to select two
artistic murals to be installed at the Downtown Senior Center. The proposals
that received the majority of the votes were Proposals 1 and 2.
Mr. Rodriguez said staff will contact the artist regarding any minor alterations
the Commissioners have requested.
He said the artist for Proposals 1 and 2 had previously suggested a community
event that could include incorporating both staff and seniors with the painting
and installation of the murals. He said staff will follow up with the artist
regarding the proposal.
Mr. Rodriguez said the anticipated completion date for the mural installation is
February 1, 2023.
VI. CHAIRMAN\MEMBER COMMENTS
Member Richard Berman stated he has served on the Senior Citizens Advisory
Commission for six years and stated today’s meeting will be his last. Member
Berman complimented for Commissioners for their time and service,
intelligence, and for their fellowship.
Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, and Chair Joanna Gerali thanked
Member Berman for his attendance and service on this Commission.
Mr. Clark stated staff will provide the Commissioners with information regarding
their terms and whether they will need to take another Oath of Office early next
year once Mayor-Elect Michelle Romero becomes the Mayor of the City of
Henderson.
VII. SET NEXT MEETING
The next meeting was set for Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 4:00 p.m.
