MEETING MINUTES
Wednesday, April 8, 2026
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Joanna Gerali called the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting to
order at 3:00 p.m. in the Heritage Park Senior Facility Conference Room,
300 South Racetrack Road.
II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL
Rayna Booker, Administrative Assistant III, confirmed the Senior Citizens
Advisory Commission Meeting had been noticed in compliance with the Nevada
Open Meeting Law.

IV. ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA (For Possible Action)
(Motion)
Commissioner Favil West introduced a motion to approve the agenda, as
presented.
(Vote)
The vote favoring passage was unanimous. Chair Joanna Gerali declared the
motion carried.

(Motion)
Commissioner Favil West introduced a motion to approve the Senior Citizens
Advisory Commission meeting minutes of March 11, 2026, as presented.
(Vote)
The vote favoring passage was unanimous. Chair Joanna Gerali declared the
motion carried.
2 HEALTHY HENDERSON PRESENTATION
PARKS AND RECREATION
Corinne Buckles, Parks and Recreation Manager, Katie Casey, Recreation
Services Coordinator and Allen Fox, Recreation Services Leader, presented an
overview of the Healthy Henderson program, and spoke about the following:
How to Participate
Stamps and Rewards
Types of Levels
Goals for Healthy Henderson Rewards
A brief discussion ensued regarding membership for volunteers, number of
senior stamp redemptions for swag items, partnering with other entities and
plans for the West Henderson area.

3 MOVE WITH THE MAYOR SPRING CHALLENGE
PARKS AND RECREATION
Danielle Norris, Parks and Recreation Manager, presented an overview of the
Move with the Mayor Spring Challenge, and spoke about the following:
Move with the Mayor Initiative
Why Mental Health and Physical Activity
How to Participate
Wellness Wednesdays, Youth Fitness Programs, Adult Fitness Tracking
Spring Challenge Benefits
Benefits of Parks and Recreation
A brief discussion ensued regarding data to assist with program expansion.
4 AUTHORIZE PARTICIPATION BY SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY
COMMISSION MEMBERS AT UPCOMING EVENTS FROM APRIL TO
MAY 2026.

(Motion)
Commissioner Audrey Woods motioned to approve Commissioners to officially
attend or participate in upcoming community programs or events on the
Henderson Events Calendar as a representative of the Commission for April
and May 2026.
(Vote)
The vote favoring passage was unanimous. Chair Joanna Gerali declared the
motion carried

listed on the Henderson Seniors’ Auxiliary Newsletter

6 STAFF REPORT
PARKS AND RECREATION
Danielle Norris, Parks and Recreation Manager, provided an update on recent
events at the Heritage Park Senior Facility and the Downtown Senior Center
including:
160 volunteers attended the Volunteer Banquet on April 1, 2026
The Egg Dive on Easter Sunday had 820 attendees at the Heritage Park
Aquatic Complex
The Golden Year Pet Adoption was cancelled
Calvin Ha-Abdul, Planner II, will be on the agenda next month.
Ms. Norris thanked Kay Nelson and the Henderson Seniors’ Auxiliary for all they
do.
VI. CHAIRMAN\MEMBER COMMENTS
Chair Joanna Gerali attended the Volunteer Banquet with other commissioners
and stated the food was excellent and enjoyed the pet rocks.
Commissioner Alan Gerstner held a well-attended class yesterday. There is one
more class scheduled for next month.
Commissioner Roop Raich attended Dan Stewart’s Meet and Greet on
March 26, 2026
Commissioner Judy Belanger is glad to be back on the commission.
Commissioner David Tulanian noted Cornerstone Park has big top for an event
on April 23, 2026, and stated South Point will have a health fair for seniors on
May 9, 2026.
Commissioner Favil West stated the Foundation Assisting Seniors lent 425
hospital beds where before it was only 5-10 per month.
XII. SET MEETING
The next meeting was set for Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
XIII. PUBLIC COMMENT
Calvin Ha-Abdul, Planner II, provided information on the City Nature Challenge
and how to participate on April 24, 2026.

IX. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Chair Joanna Gerali adjourned the
meeting at 3:54 p.m.

at the discretion of the Chairman.
The Chairman reserves the right to curtail abusive, offensive, inflammatory or repetitive
comments that disrupt, disturb or otherwise impede the orderly conduct of the meeting. See
NRS 241.030(4)(a). Examples of disruptive conduct include, without limitation, yelling,
stamping of feet, whistles, applause, heckling, name calling, use of profanity, personal
attacks, physical intimidation, threatening use of physical force, assault, battery, or any other
acts intended to impede the meeting or infringe on the rights of the board and/or committee
members, City staff, or meeting participants.

Commission members will discuss and approve whether Commissioners may
officially attend or participate in upcoming community programs or events as a
representative of the Commission for the remainder of April and the month of
May 2026.

agenda. Chairman and Members may comment on matters including, without
limitation, future agenda items, upcoming meeting dates, and meeting
procedures. Comments made cannot be acted upon or discussed at this
meeting, but may be placed on a future agenda for consideration.
