CITY OF HENDERSONVILLE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY BOARD Operations Center - Assembly Room | 305 Williams St. | Hendersonville NC 28792 Thursday, July 15, 2021 – 3:00 PM MINUTES 1. CALL TO ORDER A. Roll Call - Beth Stang, Chairperson CONSIDERATION OF AGENDA Agenda was approved Motion made by Chair Stang, Seconded by Board Member Rundlett. Voting Yea: Board Member Bailey, Board Member Beamer, Board Member Jernigan, Board Member Kustin, Board Member Pahle, Board Member Twiggs, Councilmember Simpson Voting Abstaining: Staff Liason Huffman, Staff Liason Erwin AGENDA ITEMS 2. Adoption of ESB Minutes from June 17th, 2021 - Michael Huffman and Gracie Erwin, Staff Liaisons June meeting minutes adopted Motion made by Board Member Twiggs, Seconded by Board Member Rundlett. Approve meeting schedule and notice for the rest of 2021 - Beth Stang, Chairperson EnterTextHere 4. Welcome new members appointed by City Council on 7/1/2021- All board members Everyone introduced themselves with a brief background. SUB-COMMITTEE UPDATES 5. Bee City Update - Kim Bailey, Board Member ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY BOARD – July 15, 2021 Page | 1 Kim shared that there was a blog post from Bee city highlight two different projects from Hendersonville. Kim proposed $500 to be allocated for the symbolic Monarch butterfly migration program. Shared concerns about the future of Bee City due to constraints with business partners and whether they want to scale back Bee city, keep the same involvement, or do away and be housed through a non profit group/one that has less restrictions. 6. Plastic and Recycling Update from Council Meeting- Gray Jernigan, Board Member, Beth Stang, Chairperson They updated the recycling center but needs to be pressure washed and painted. The dumpster is owned by the city. Need to install signs and sponsorship plaque. Mountain True- Kicking off the Be plastic Free. They have asked business to reduce single use plastics. The logo is drafted. They are working on a press release to get the word out. 7. City Council Update - Lyndsey Simpson, Councilwoman DISCUSSION ITEMS 8. Old Business NEW BUSINESS 9. Discuss Sustainability Day at the Farmers Market (volunteers needed to man the tent)- Beth Stang, Chairperson 10.
