Roll Call - Mary Ellen Kustin, Chairperson everyone is present except for Will Garvey, Two guest speakers, Brent Detwiler. and Anna Alsobrook APPROVAL OF AGENDA \ 2. Approval of Agenda- Mary Ellen Kustin, Chairperson Addition- Chair and co chair - ~ Mary Ellen is asking if any one is interested at being the chair. Vote on new chair and co chair at the next meeting. APPROVAL OF MINUTES approve minutes at next meeting for todays meeting (june 16th) and meeting on May 19th. 3. Approval of Minutes- Mary Ellen Kustin, Chairperson postponed PUBLIC COMMENT 4. Public Comment- Allotted Time, 15 minutes no public comment PRESENTATIONS ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY BOARD – June 16, 2022 Page | 1  5. Ecusta Trail Presentation by Brent Detwiler, City Staff 30% designed; Henderson side allows people on the trail at their own risk, look for signs. ESB recommends solar for any power needed items such as lighting and flashing signs along the way. 6. Plastic Free Asheville- Anna Alsobrook, Guest Speaker may join by zoom Anna came in person. Discussed outer bank ban and that it was a state assembly law. It was revoked at some point in time. A new ban is discussed in the attached duke memo. Mountain Tru does believe the law to be interpreted that we do have some legal authority to restrict source of some un recyclables. goal is to have ordinance approved that bans plastic bags at checkout, and has 10 cent paper bag option for sale, no Styrofoam for take out containers, and the retailers can keep the money made from paper bags. OLD BUSINESS 7. Fridge Magnets- Beth Stang, Board member take off agenda for now until requests regarding budgets. 8. Sustainability Manager Discussion - Mary Ellen Kustin, Chairperson according to budget that was passed- sustainability manager position has been approved viewed as half parks and half sustainability person. Job description needs to be written first and then we will be able to post job. Not sure on time line yet. SUB COMMITTEE UPDATES 9. Bee City- Will Garvey, Board member It is pollinator month 10. Recycling and Plastics- Geri Conley, Boardmember Currently without a leader, looking for new people. they meet on third Wednesday of the month at the co-op. - Mountain true recycling committee. 11. Sustainability Planning- Unfilled role? Vote on new team lead if not done at last meeting Press pause until board is filled again. planning committees are canceled until further notice. 12. City Council Updates- Lyndsey Simpson, Councilwoman ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY BOARD – June 16, 2022 Page | 2  new appointments coming next month. NEW BUSINESS 13. ESB Budget Discussion- Mary Ellen Kustin, Chairperson Brian to come discuss budget next meeting and focus of next meeting be on the budget. 14. Green Meadows Community Garden- Mary Ellen Kustin, Chairperson Garden is currently under resourced, but trying to get funding and help for the garden- Krystal is heading this project and has been asked to come speak to the ESB. Have a special meeting at the garden to discuss. Notice to follow.
