CALL TO ORDER Meeting called to order at 4:36pm. Present: Gina Baxter; City Council, Kasey Lyons; Staff Liaison, Emily Davidson; Chair, Virginia Tegel, Kimberly Blackwell, Joey Burnett, Hana Price, Jill Carter (members) APPROVAL OF AGENDA ESB Organization added to agenda. Virginia motioned to approve amended agenda, Emily seconded. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Approval of May 12th minutes May 12th minutes were amended for error in public comment section. Virginia motioned to approve amended minutes, Emily seconded. OLD BUSINESS 2. Public Comment No public comments. 3. Volunteers needed for ESB outreach at the Farmers' Market Email klyons@hvlnc.gov to sign up for a volunteer time slot Emily will update volunteer sign up sheet. 4. Volunteers needed to maintain SDS Email klyons@hvlnc.gov to sign up for a volunteer time slot Emily will update volunteer sign up sheet. 5. Discuss remaining budget allocation. Current ideas include compost bin giveaway and upgrading the solar set-up at SDS. ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY BOARD – June 09, 2026 Page | 1  5 compost bins will be purchased to give away to the community. Kasey will find previous solar batter order and send to all board members. 6. Chimney Swift Towers- Do we wish to proceed? Board will request a formal presentation, including Mike Huffman, ideally during the July meeting. 7. Green Partnership Update 5 local businesses have expressed interest. Kasey will check public record laws for creating an official email account. A Green Partnership site inspection form will be created. 8. Board Recruitment Ideas for recruitment and retainment, report from Virginia on 6/3 meeting Board requests to be alerted to all new applicants, and would like to invite them to sit in on at least one meeting. Environmental Sustainability Board may be combined with Tree Board in the future. Concerns about Tree City's Tree Board requirement were discussed. The Board would like to have a combined meeting with the Tree Board before September. 9. Staff Liaison Update - Kasey Lyons, Utilities Compliance Technician City Communications doesn't generally pay for social media posts, the Board would need to use a third party. Kasey will know more about having a table at Rhythm & Brews after June 18th's event. Food Forest sign has been purchased, has not yet arrived. Waiting to hear back from Conserving Carolina about joining Green Drinks. 10. Hendo EarthFest Start planning in fall NEW BUSINESS 11. Consider using CitiesWithNature for data tracking - Joey Burnett, Member ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY BOARD – June 09, 2026 Page | 2  https://citieswithnature.org/ Board will discuss with Caitlyn when she returns from maternity leave. 12. City Bike Plan- Info session 6/25, 4pm at Trailside Brewing Co. NACTO Urban Bikeway design and OSLO standard for bicycle planning were recommended. ADJOURNMENT Meeting adjourned at 6:04pm.
