In attendance: Carl Taylor (Henderson County Public Schools), Dawn Barr (resident, BRBC president),
Diana Lewis (resident, Sammy Williams volunteer), Adela Gutierrez (City of Hendersonville), LoriKay
Paden (YMCA), Philip Ellis (interested citizen, Robinson Design Engineers), Janna Bianculli (Henderson
County Planning Department), Landon Coley (Henderson County Planning Department), David White
(WNCSource), Luke Huntley (WNCSource), Matt Manley (City of Hendersonville), Brent Detwiler (City of
Hendersonville), Kristy Carter (Traffic Planning and Design), Christy Staudt (Traffic Planning and Design).
On Zoom: Joe Sanders (Blue Ridge Bike Club, AARP), Jennifer Hensley (City Council), Rebekah Robinson
(Conserving Carolina), Tom Wooten (City of Hendersonville), Richard Regan (resident).
Kristy and Christy opened the meeting with introductions of the project team and asked attendees to
introduce themselves.
Comments on draft vision and goals statements:
• Joe Sanders: Network is a critical part, first phrase in second sentence. Bicycle and pedestrian
items should be emphasized as a “critical or important part”
• Janna Bianculli: Pointed out the need to reference all users since “safe for me isn’t necessarily
safe for someone else”. Idea was discussed to add a note to the final sentence ….”
interconnected with the regional transportation system AND safe and accessible for all users.”
Other questions/comments not indicated on map:
• Several comments were made about the importance of audible pedestrian signals (APS) for
individuals with vision impairment. Key locations noted included King Street, Asheville Highway,
Four Seasons Boulevard and Church Street.
• A desire for a committee was expressed to deal with ADA priorities such as APS.
The presentation concluded and the meeting transitioned to the printed map (in person) and concept
