Chairs Comments:
Chair Barrett reviewed the Committee’s mission and the rules for public comment. He indicated that to
date TWRA personnel have not been aligned in what can be done about the herd. He also stated that a
new person had been appointed in charge of the deer population and that he, Mark Burdorf and Mike
Forester had scheduled a meeting on 4/24 at TWRA HQ to explore all available actions.
Public Comments:
Jeff Hulsey – Ask TWRA what their vision is for our deer herd’s healthy population number – must do
something! The chair answered he would ask at the TWRA Meeting. Also asked the committee to look
for ways to further mitigate supplemental feeding
Mr. Ehmling: Concerned as a deer hit his car and deer have destroyed several landscaping attempts at a
large out of pocket cost. Recommended fines for people feeding deer should escalate with repeat
offenses. If hunting is possible in large yards helpful – Small yards are a problem for hunting. Keep seeing
more deer each year.
Old Business:
Planting recommendations will be on the web site. Recommend that rules for fencing (including electric
fence) in the city be published and noted on the website. Additional information is added as it develops.
New Business:
The Chair asked for each member to recommend items to be covered in the BOMA meeting.
2
Sylvia: Progress report, Can hunt or allow hunting on your land during season with proper license, Safety
is necessary! Ordnance from city on fencing a native planting.
Pam: Emphasis deer resistant plants
Mike, Funds needed for distribution of pamphlet – Cover heavily impacted areas only to reduce cost.
Mark: HOA approved City/State efforts (fencing, plantings, etc.) ??
Jim: must cover we are now investigating costs, effectiveness of culling as one of the options because of
the spate of emails with TWRA and others. They will expect it.
Emily, cover what is possible.
Colin: Pamphlet and timely PR releases during seasons.
Chair: TWRA
Other Business:
The Chair recognized Mike Rowan and thanked him for his long involvement with the Committee and his
valuable input as a member. He invited Mike to continue to attend meetings and provide input.
Motion to Adjourn:
Motion: Mike Forester
Second: Mark Burdorf
Vote: Passed unanimously
Respectfully Submitted,
Jim Flockencier
