Adjournment 1  Hendersonville Aerial Survey Proposal USDA APHIS Wildlife Services can provide aerial surveys utilizing helicopters via a Cooperative Service Agreement for Hendersonville to maintain current, accurate knowledge of deer numbers. Deer populations in TN are most negatively impacted on a regular, annual basis by deer hunting seasons and high deer/vehicle collisions that occur in the November/December breeding season. Irregular occurrences of disease outbreaks occur most often in late summer, which would add to herd mortality, but are not as predictable as the other two factors. Surveys are recommended in mid-November to capture high point of deer populations and late March to capture low point of deer populations. Highest mortality, as discussed above, will occur between these dates, allowing Hendersonville to collect data beneficial to decision making involving deer culling. If culling is eventually implemented, these surveys will be important to measure success of the program and determine if efforts should be halted or continued. Current cost of an aerial survey utilizing Forward Looking InfraRed (FLIR) camera equipped helicopter is $8500. The cost in March will incorporate a 5% increase, totaling $8925. It should be noted that WS does not anticipate having a FLIR equipped helicopter and trained crew for November 2024. This means that the most likely date for the first survey will be late March 2025. For budgeting purposes, the city should use $17,850 as the cost for two surveys in 2025. Approved of work so far. Ok’d USDA workshop on Saturday 6/29 at City Hall 8:00am to Noon. Display of fences, other means of protecting landscaping, TWRA sign up for hunting on property, and USDA Presentations. Had meeting with TWRA new Deer Chief. Requested info on other towns efforts of deer control, County Extension Board will collaborate with us on recommended landscaping. TWRA OK’d Brochure. BOMA approved $8,300.00 for mailing to all households in City. Board Liaison Comments: No Board Liaison Comments Public Comments: Jake Moore spoke; was at BOMA meeting and stated that much more data was needed, Chair concurred and stated we were working on that. Specific data needs are areas available for hunting and results, cost of accidents, depredation permits and results. Other public information releases needed as rut in approaching. Old Business: Jake OK’d use of his deer photos for 29th workshop. The final brochure version was approved by acclimation. 3 New Business: Attendees at 6/29 USDA deer damage workshop will be: Jerald Barrett, Mike Forester, Charles Travis, Pam Kerzner, Jim Flockencier. Jim will bring name badges. Emily and Mark are looking at publicity for workshops through city feeds. TWRA is looking at changing deer reporting app to better capture depredation result numbers. Sylvia asked if a landscape architect specializing in deer resistant planting could be found. Mike Forester moved that the July meeting be cancelled due to vacations. Seconded by Flockencier and passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned by acclimation at 7:30 pm.
