CITY OF HERREID, SOUTH DAKOTA
March 6, 2023
The Herreid City Council was called to order by Mayor Gary Weismantel on the above date at 7:30pm at
City Hall. The following members were present: A. Dupper, K. Rossow, R. Rossow, B. Vander Vorst, P.
Weisbeck, and L. Fuehrer. Also present were: Orland Geigle, Prairie Pioneer; B. Van Vugt; Maintenance
Personnel, A. Hague; Finance Officer, Dick Werner, HAHD & Pool Committee.
Moved by K. Rossow, seconded by L. Fuehrer to approve the agenda. All members present voted aye,
motioned carried.
Moved by A. Dupper, seconded by B. Vander Vorst to approve February minutes. All members present
voted aye, motion carried.
Moved by A. Dupper to approve February claims, seconded by P Weisbeck. All members present voted
aye, motion carried.
Sheriff’s report-none.
Problem Resolution Forms-none
Building Permits/Variance-Mark Kroontje has set April Publication notice to paper-Hearing set for April
3, 2023 at 7:45PM. Motion by K. Rossow, seconded by B. Rossow. All members present voted aye,
motion carried.
Public Comments-Piles behind city hall on the street are getting bigger and more into the street. L.
Fuehrer asks how to go about rectifying it-A. Dupper suggests cooperation from sheriffs dept to have it
addressed after nothing is done with a friendly conversation. Also noted that it is the residents own
responsibility to move snow in front of their mailboxes. Concerned residents wanting snow removal on
Saturday’s-A. Dupper does not feel it is warranted if it is melting.P. Weisbeck stated if it would have
been windrowed, it would have been a bigger mess. L. Fuehrer states we had a list of order of cleanup
and where it is at. It starts with Fire Dept, Mail, School, Businesses on Main, fitness center, finance
office.
Pool-A. Dupper states states they were going to try to come out and do a walk through with the city
council per weather. Dick Werner states there is damage to the ceiling due to roof not being enclosed.
Brian is aware of this and is going to fix this. Mechanical room was finished and has great progress.
There are lifted seams a little bit but is stated it is not a huge loss. Tile to be getting started in the first
part of April weather permitting. A. Dupper moved to approve pay request, seconded by L. Fuehrer. All
members present voted aye, motion carried.
*Correction on last months minutes-Anette will not be gone from the library, so no new volunteer will
be needed.
District Meeting- Confirmed Adie, Gary, and Kim would attend in Akaska.
Finance Officer Training- Moved by L. Fuehrer, seconded P. Weisbeck to allow A. Hague to go to Finance
Officer School June 7-9 in Pierre, all members present voted aye, motion carried.
Board of equalization-Meeting set to March 20, 7:30 PM.
Maintenance Report-BVV states Agtegra is wondering if they would be able to park their sprayer at the
airport-they will not be charged as they are off of the landing way. They also inquired about a water
tank-they will not be charged as long as it is out of the way, but will be charged for water if receiving it
from the city.
Finance Report- A. Hague presented the Code Enforcement contract-Moved by A. Dupper, seconded by
L. Fuehrer to approve contract-with the understanding that we need to know what his priority is and
that we need to see the letters that are being sent before they are being sent out. A. Hague presented
delinquent accounts, with friendly reminders/disconnect notices to go out.
The next regularly scheduled council meeting will be April 3, 2023 at 7:30 P.M.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:25 P.M.
