1. Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery Historic Marker
Coralee Cowan of the High Point Preservation Society presented the Committee with three
revised versions of the inscription for the Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery Historic
Marker. The Committee discussed the strengths of each version of the inscription and what
information could be verified and what information could not be verified. The Committee
unanimously recommended the following revised inscription be forwarded to the Historic
Preservation Commission for their consideration:
Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery
Since 1925
This romantic style memorial park was established by Stephen Clark, the developer
of High Point’s historic Emerywood neighborhood. The original entrance gates,
designed by noted architect, Fred Klein, have welcomed many High Point families to
their final resting place. The Gatekeeper’s Cottage was added in 1927.
Erected by the High Point Preservation Society, in partnership with the
David R. Hayworth Foundation and Charles E. Hayworth Foundation.
Dedicated on All Saints Day, November 1, 2024
