MINUTES HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Historic Marker Committee March 22, 2024 City of High Point Municipal Office Building 3rd Floor Large Conference Room 10:00 a.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Holly Davis Mary Powell DeLille Rodney Smith MEMBERS ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: David Fencl, Senior Planner The meeting began at 10:00 a.m. in the 3rd Floor Large Conference Room. 1. Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery Historic Marker Coralee Cowan of the High Point Preservation Society presented the Committee with three revised versions of the inscription for the Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery Historic Marker. The Committee discussed the strengths of each version of the inscription and what information could be verified and what information could not be verified. The Committee unanimously recommended the following revised inscription be forwarded to the Historic Preservation Commission for their consideration: Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery Since 1925 This romantic style memorial park was established by Stephen Clark, the developer of High Point’s historic Emerywood neighborhood. The original entrance gates, designed by noted architect, Fred Klein, have welcomed many High Point families to their final resting place. The Gatekeeper’s Cottage was added in 1927. Erected by the High Point Preservation Society, in partnership with the David R. Hayworth Foundation and Charles E. Hayworth Foundation.
