City of Hobart Board of Park Commissioners Minutes Meeting of October 14, 2013 Call to Order : Mrs. Sills called the meeting to order at 6:02 P.M., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The following Commissioners were present: Mrs. Sills, Mr. Ehrhardt, and Plan Commission Representative Mr. Mendoza. Mr. Hevel was absent. Also present were Council Representative Mr. Maggio, School Board Representative Mr. Mike Rogers, Park Superintendent Mr. John Mitchell, Secretary Karen Erler-Watson, and Mr. Gralik. Approval of Agenda : Mrs. Sills made a motion to amend the agenda, adding approval for new proposal from Interpretive Ideas. Mr. Mendoza made a motion to approve the Agenda as amended, seconded by Mr. Ehrhardt. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Approval of Minutes : Mr. Mendoza mentioned a spelling error in the September minutes. Mr. Mendoza made a motion to approve the minutes from September, 2013 with correction, seconded by Mr. Ehrhardt. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Approval of Register of Claims : Mr. Ehrhardt questioned some claims dated earlier in the year. Mr. Mitchell reported that the invoices were turned in late. Mr. Ehrhardt made a motion to accept the register of claims for September as presented, seconded by Mr. Mendoza. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Correspondence : None Superintendent's Report : Mr. Mitchell reported that the Barrington Ridge cleanup project has been completed. Arbor Lane tree stumps were removed, along with other stumps at various park sites. A community service worker, who owns a tree service, did the work saving the city thousands of dollars. The park department has been working on winterizing. The Brickie Bowl renovation is in the planning stages. Plan Commission Report : None Council Report : None School Board Report : None Old Business : New Business : Marine Corps Award Presentation: The Marine Corps Auxiliary League presented an award to the Park Board. Phil Gralik/Oak Savannah Trail Contract: Mr. Gralik approached the Park Board requesting approval for a supplemental agreement for the Oak Savannah Trail. INDOT asked for approval in the amount of $143,962.00. The $60,000 for signage in the Planter has been reduced. Mr. Ehrhardt made a motion to approve the contract, seconded by Mr. Mendoza. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Approval for Cancer walk event: The walk already took place. The board was displeased regarding the late notice to them of this event. Mr. Mitchell will address his staff regarding this issue. Announcements : Mr. Robert Allen approached the board regarding shelters at Robinson Lake. Sandy O’Brien reported on the Cub Scout camp out at Robinson Lake. Adjournment : Mr. Ehrhardt made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Mendoza. All aye, motion carried.
