City of Hobart Board of Park Commissioners Minutes August 8th, 2016 Call to Order: Mr. Ehrhardt called the meeting to order at 5pm, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Ms. Mandon took roll call. The following Commissioners were present: Mr. Spain, Mrs. Liss, Mr. Ehrhardt, and Mrs. Sills. Also present were Park Board Secretary Ms. Mandon, Park Board Superintendent John Mitchell, and School Board representative Mr. Rogers. Mr. Herzog was not in attendance at the time of roll call but arrived later. Approval of Agenda: Mrs. Liss made a motion to approve the agenda, seconded by Mr. Spain. All aye, motion carried. (4-0) Approval of Minutes: Mrs. Sills motioned to approve the minutes as presented, seconded by Mrs. Liss. All aye, motion carried. (4-0) Approval of Register of Claims: Mrs. Liss questioned the large payment to Ball State University. Mr. Mitchell stated that it was for the required archeological dig for the Coastal Grant project behind the Community Center. There were three late added bills for the month. One was for Boyd Construction shelter work at Robinson Lake, second was Hillman Summer league softball awards, and third was to Landscape Illuminations for the Christmas lights. Mr. Spain made a motion to approve the register of claims, seconded by Mrs. Sills. All aye, motion carried. (4-0) Correspondence: None Superintendent’s Report: Mr. Mitchell stated that the Lakefront Festival is coming up August 18th – 21st this year. The Dam Duck Race is Sunday at 3pm and the Dam Duck Tape and Cardboard Regatta is Saturday at 3pm. The last movie is being shown this Thursday at the Summer Market. The two picnic shelters at Robinson Lake were concreted and made to be ADA compliant and two grills were installed. The Mayor hired a part-time landscaper with a degree and experience to maintain the entryways and roundabout. The Hobart Pool closes on Sunday the 14th. Mr. Mitchell announced that the 1st Annual Splash and Dash is September 3rd. Mr. Ehrhardt said that the Dam Duck Tape and Cardboard Regatta is a must see event. Plan Commission Report: Mr. Spain stated that at the Plan Commission meeting, developers discussed the site plan for two indoor hockey rinks at Silverstone Crossings. Council Report: Mr. Herzog stated that he had heard all good feedback with the events this year, from the movie at the pool, the market, and he is looking forward to the festival. School Board Report: Mr. Rogers stated that everyone is looking forward to school starting the 17th. The Middle school has a new cafeteria because the lift station does not work, it backs up into the building. Old Business: None New Business: Mrs. Dixon addressed the board in regards to the master plan and Fred Rose being a protected area. It is the only passive park and it is so special, she said. She urges for help and assurance to protect the park in the master plan. Mr. Ehrhardt stated that Mr. Mendoza is good at what he does and he will begin public meetings in regards to the new parks master plan, he just does not know when. Mr. Anderson with the Hobart Jaycees came before the board in regards to the Mud Volleyball event and the employee servers at Lakefront Festival beer garden. Mr. Anderson wanted to thank the board for approving the new Mud Volleyball location and they had a great turn out. Mr. Ehrhardt questioned the insurance and Mr. Anderson said he would get it turned into the Clerk Treasurer’s office as soon as possible. Announcements: Mr. Krebes approached the board and discussed the Knights of Columbus annual picnic that was held at Robinson Lake. He wanted to compliment the Parks Department for the great shape that the park was in and he only heard positive compliments from others. Mr. Krebes also discussed the NWI Paddlers Association event that utilized the lake with over 200 people in kayaks. Mr. Krebes stated that he was so elated with the concrete under the pavilions at Robinson Lake. Thank you for the park being great condition. The Friend’s of Robinson Lake project for 100 feet of shoreline stabilization was awarded the first permit and they are still waiting on the Army Corp of Engineers permit. Mr. Ehrhardt thanked Mr. Krebes for the great comments and feedback. Adjournment: Mrs. Sills made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mrs. Liss. All aye, motion carried.
