Meeting Minutes
May 13, 2024
Call to Order: Ms. Grabczak called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. followed by the recitation
of the Pledge of Allegiance. The meeting was open to the public and a call-in number for remote
public participation.
Roll Call: Commissioners in attendance: Mr. Recio, Mr. Schultz, Ms. Grabczak, Council
Representative Mr. Rodriquez, and School Board Representative Mrs. Hillan. Also present are
Park Board Secretary Ms. Montes, and Park Director Mrs. Mandon. Absent Mr. Such
Approval of Agenda: Motion by Mr. Schultz, seconded by Mr. Recio to approve the agenda as
presented. All aye, motion carried. (3-0)
Approval of Minutes: Motion by Mr. Schultz, seconded by Mr. Recio to accept the May 13,
2024 minutes as presented. All aye, motion carried. (3-0)
Approval of Register of Claims: Motion by Mr. Recio, seconded by Mr. Such to accept the
register of claims. All aye, motion carried. (3-0)
Correspondence: nothing under correspondence
Director Report: Mrs. Mandon announced that everything is kicking off for the summer. The
mowing crew is catching up with all the mowing because of the rain. The Hillman pole is being
worked on this week and they are working hard to get it done and the downtown hanging baskets
went up.
Mrs. Mandon also announced that the Hobart pool getting ready to open on June 3rd. The
lifeguard's recertifications are being done this week at the Hobart school again. One of the perks
that we give the kids to get them to come back is paying for their certifications. We are excited to
have a total of 12 lifeguards coming back this year.
Mrs. Mandon mentioned that we spoke to Jen Woronecki-Ellis from Friends of Fed Rose
Park and they are doing a Blooms and Birds nature walk on Wednesday, May 22 at 5:30. They
are also discussing their 65th year next for Fred Rose Park.
Mrs. Mandon thanked Mr. Recio for donating his board member salary back to the Park.
We appreciate all the donations that come towards our department. We have been looking for
many ways to cut down on costs. We found a couple of things one being Cintas and Janitors
Supply. As a result, you will see a couple of changes in the bills.
Mrs. Mandon mentioned that we had our Trash or Treasure and the was a big success.
This year was the largest number of participants total of 78 participants. Everyone loved it and it
also coincided well with City Clean up, whatever they didn’t sell dumpters were provided.
Robinson Lake also had its clean up on May 5th and the Boy Scouts participated and had a great
turnout. The Parks clean up took place May 11th and we also had a great turnout. We planted the
downtown planters and a couple of areas at Festival Park, everything looks beautiful.
Mrs. Mandon also announced that our Lakefront Festival is May 30th - June 2nd.
Following the opening pool on June 3rd.
Plan Commission Report: nothing under plan commission report
Common Council Report: nothing under the Common Council report
School Board Report: Mrs. Hillan reported graduation is June 2nd. There was a high number of
students graduating from Ivy Tech with their associate's degrees. Hobart School was also
honored as a district for having Project Lead the Way distinct honor school.
Unfinished Business:
Hobart Football Booster Club: This item was on the table as park board
members wanted more information regarding the $500 donation for the Brickie Football Spring
2024 sponsorship. Motion by Mr. Schultz, seconded by Mr Recio to sponsor the Hobart Football
Booster Club. All aye, motion carried. (3-0)
New Business:
Tavern on the Lake Fest: Tommy came forward to the board to present the Tavern on
the Lake Festival for July 27th from 11 am to 11 pm. He provided the layout of the setting and
all the information needed to make a successful fest. He has the approval from the police
department, board of works, and Mayor Huddleston. He has also talked to Mrs. Mandon about
taking the right steps to follow any park guidelines and rules. He discussed the details of the fest
including plenty of security and garbage cans provided by the park department. The purpose of
this fest is to get the community together and thank them for a first year of success. There is a
recommendation to protect a memorial tree. Motion by Mr. Recio, seconded by Mr. Schultz to
approve the Tavern of the Lake Fest. All aye, motion carried. (3-0)
Band Contracts for Festival & Summer Market: Mrs.Mandon provided all the
band contracts for the summer market, the Lakefront Festival, and the 4th of July. It's just asking
for the president of the park board and secretary to sign off for the all-year-around bands.
Motion by Mr. Sultz, seconded by Mr. Recio to approve the band contracts for the festival and
summer market. All aye, motion carried. (3-0)
Announcements: Zeta Allen came forward to announce the continuing selling of the kayak
tickets.
Adjournment: Motion to adjourn by Ms. Grabczak. All aye, motion carried. (3-0)
