MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY CITY OF HOBART, LAKE COUNTY, INDIANA October 1, 2014 Call to Order – Moment of Silence: Mayor Snedecor called the meeting to order at 4:03 p.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call: The following members were present: Mr. Lain, Mr. Ehrhardt and Mayor Snedecor. Also present: City Attorney DeBonis, Clerk-Treasurer Longer and Admin. Asst. Trish White. Reading of Minutes: Motion by Mr. Lain, seconded by Mr. Ehrhardt, to accept and approve both the minutes of the Regular Meeting and the Special Meeting of September 17, 2014 as presented. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Correspondence: There was no correspondence. Approval of Register of Claims and Payroll Claims: Motion by Mr. Ehrhardt, seconded by Mr. Lain, to approve the register of claims and payroll claims as presented. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Approval of Agenda: Mr. Snedecor asked that Resolution 2014-09 be added to the agenda, authorizing the solicitation of Bids for Solid Waste. Motion by Mr. Ehrhardt, seconded by Mr. Lain, to approve the agenda as amended. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Unfinished Business: There was no unfinished business. New Business Request to pave easement: Larry Adams, re: 1013 S. State St. : Mr. Adams was present. He is asking for approval to pave 8’ of City easement in front of his home. Mr. Snedecor stated that there was a catch basin near the edge of the property and it would need to have a pitch so water goes toward the catch basin, directing Mr. Adams to work with City Staff. Motion by Mr. Lain, seconded by Mr. Ehrhardt, to approve the request contingent on the recommendation of the City Engineer and the Stormwater Coordinator. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Request to install guardrail in easement: Griselda Aguirre, re: 1920 W. 3rd St.: Mr. Aguirre was present. She stated she purchased the home approximately 7 years ago and has rented it out. She expressed concern about a vehicle potentially driving into the home. She plans to make this her primary residence in February 2015 and start a family. She asked if a guardrail could be put up to protect her home. Mr. Snedecor recommended she work with staff on coming up with a resolution, maybe landscaping suggestions. Motion by Mr. Lain, seconded by Mr. Ehrhardt, to allow 30 days to report discussion with Staff and set for Board review on Nov. 5, 2014. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Request for Building Permit refund: Henn & Sons Construction re: 2912 39th Ave. W. Permit BP# 20141029 in the amount of $65.00. Mr. Hannigan recommended the refund be issued. Motion by Mr. Lain, seconded by Mr. Ehrhardt, to approve the request of refund as recommended by Mr. Hannigan. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Board of Works Minutes: October 1, 2014 1 Resolution 2014-09: A Resolution Authorizing the issuance of Solicitation for Bids for a New Solid Waste Disposal Agreement: Attorney DeBonis reviewed the solicitation stating the current contract expires this year. Motion by Mr. Ehrhardt, seconded by Mr. Lain, to approve Resolution 2014-09 as presented. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Announcement: Mr. Snedecor asked if there was anyone who wished to address the Board and there was no response. Adjournment: Motion by Mr. Ehrhardt to adjourn. All aye, motion carried.
