MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY CITY OF HOBART, LAKE COUNTY, INDIANA June 3, 2015 Call to Order/Pledge to the Flag: Mayor Snedecor called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call: The following members were present: Mr. Lain, Mr. Ehrhardt, and Mayor Snedecor. Also present: Attorney DeBonis and Admin. Asst. C. Govert. Absent: Clerk-Treasurer Longer Reading of Minutes: Motion by Mr. Lain, seconded by Mr. Ehrhardt, to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting of May 20, 2015, and the Special Meeting of May 21, 2015 as presented. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Correspondence: Mr. Fulton and Mr. Gralik gave an update on the Downtown Infrastructure Project. The current phase will wrap up by July 4, 2015, and then Main Street will close one block at a time for the installation of sewer, waterline, and storm sewer. Mayor Snedecor thanked all of the entities including the HSD, RDC, RA, and the Council for working together to make this project possible. Approval of Register of Claims and Payroll Claims: Motion by Mr. Ehrhardt, seconded by Mr. Lain, to accept and approve the register of claims and payroll claims as presented. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Approval of Agenda: Motion by Mr. Lain, seconded by Mr. Ehrhardt, to approve the Agenda as presented. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Unfinished Business: There was no unfinished business. New Business: Request for Tree Removal from Easement: Dave Richter, re: 1143 State St.: Mr. Richter was unable to attend the meeting but requested a decision be made in his absence. Ty Lawson, Public Works Dept. stated the tree is dying and should be removed. Motion by Mr. Ehrhardt, seconded by Mr. Lain, to grant permission to the homeowner to remove the tree at the homeowner’s expense. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Request to plant a Tree in the Easement: Zagorka James, re: 175 S Delaware St: Mrs. James addressed the Board asking for permission to plant a tree in the easement. Mr. Lawson from the Public Works Department suggested she contact the Public Works office to get a list of approved trees. Mr. Gralik noted a larger shade tree would need to be placed on the owner’s property. Motion by Mr. Lain, seconded by Mr. Snedecor, to grant permission to plant an approved tree in the easement, as directed by the Public Works Department and the Arborist. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Consideration of Entertainment Contract for Summer Market: Nine Contracts were presented for various summer market dates: Tiki Toms 6/11/15 $600 Dave Alamillo 7/30/15 $250 Jim Bulanda 6/25/15 $400 FOX 8/13/15 $350 PVT’s 7/04/15 $300 Eaten Alive 8/27/15 $350 Gerry Hundt 7/09/15 $350 Oscar and the Majestics 9/3/15 $400 Capernaum 7/23/15 $160 Board of Works Minutes: June 3, 2015 Motion by Mr. Snedecor, seconded by Mr. Lain, to approve the Entertainment Contracts for the Summer Market as presented. All aye, motion carried. (3-0) Announcements: Mayor Snedecor announced that the Summer Market opens June 4, 2015. The Relics will perform and 42 vendors will be in attendance. Mr. Snedecor asked if there was anyone wishing to come before the Board and there was no response. Adjournment: Motion by Mr. Lain, seconded by Mr. Ehrhardt, to adjourn. All aye, motion carried.
