Contractor's Licensing Board and Registration

CITY OF HOBART CONTRACTOR’S LICENSING BOARD Meeting Minutes - September 26, 2018 at 6:00pm Mr. Phil Gralik called the meeting to order at 6:01pm. Roll Call: Members in attendance were: Mr. Phill Gralik, Ms. Maria Galka, Mr. Owen Stephens, Mr. Dave Soderquist, and Mr. William Shearer. Also in attendance were Mr. Mike Hannigan, Building Official and Elizabeth Ferba, Recording Secretary. Let the record show that Mr. Lino Maggio and Mr. Ed Power were not present at the meeting. Pledge of Allegiance Approval of Minutes: Mr. Stephens motioned to approve the minutes of the July 25, 2018 meeting as presented, seconded by Mr. Soderquist. All ayes, motion carried. (5-0) Communications / Acceptance of Agenda: An error was discovered in the agenda showing a previously used case number. The Agenda has been amended so that Danley’s Garage World is 2018-07 and Stash Construction Co. is 2018-08. Mr. Stephens motioned to approve the amended agenda, seconded by Ms. Galka. All ayes, motion carried. (5-0) OLD BUSINESS: 2018-05: Upscale Construction – Dan Kettwig Complainant: Shane Hric, 1020 Lakeview Dr, Hobart, IN Purpose: Follow-up from the July 25, 2018 Contractor’s License Board meeting. This matter was tabled for today’s meeting to see if there had been any resolution to the complaint. Mr. Hric has stated that the two homeowners have been working together to try to resolve the issues without the cooperation of the Contractor. Mr. Soderquist motioned to table this matter until the next meeting on January 23, 2019 to give all parties additional time to work out their differences. Ms. Galka seconds. All aye, motion carried. (5-0) 1 NEW BUSINESS: 2018 - 07: Danley’s Garage World Violation: Failing to call for required inspections Purpose: Required to appear before the Contractor’s Licensing Board. Bob Null, Building Inspector, is stating that the contractor has failed to call for their framing inspections on at least two locations that they are aware of. Garages were built in 2017 and permits have not been finaled. A representative of Danley’s was present and stated that he was not familiar with the two jobs in question but was called in to take care of the matter. Mr. Soderquist motioned to table this matter to the next meeting on January 23, 2019 to research how many open permits Danley’s Garage World has. Danley’s Garage World must also call for final inspections on the two known locations. Mr. Stephens seconded. All aye, motion carried. (5-0) 2018 – 08: Stash Construction Co Violation: Working without proper permits Purpose: Required to appear before the Contractor’s Licensing Board. Building Official, Mike Hannigan, brought Stash Construction before the board with the complaint that they started working at a site before obtaining the proper permits. Josh Milton, with Stash Construction, appeared and explained that the error was on their part. They started the work before verifying in their office if permits were applied for. Mr. Soderquist motioned to fine Stash Construction $300.00 for working without a permit and suspend the fine pending no further violations within a year. Ms. Galka seconded. All aye, motioned carried. (5-0) Ms. Galka motioned to adjourn the meeting. Mr. Shearer seconded. All aye, motion carried. (5-0) 2
