Special City Council Meeting

Special Meeting of the Holdingford City Council June 20, 2016 The Special Meeting was unofficially called to order at 4:40 p.m. on site at property located at Main and Spring Streets to walk area where Opatz Metals and Rolloffs is proposing expansion of their business. Members present: Sue Marstein, Mike Odden, Alan Walz, Bob Sanchez, Eric Berscheid, Sandra Meer, Jordy and Gary Opatz, Jeremy Freudenrich, Anna Haynes, Bob Lane and Tim Berscheid. The adjoining property to the east of Opatz Metals is for sale and Opatz is proposing to expand their scrap yard for metal storage and a drive through area for semi-trucks. The traffic flow would be from the north through their current yard area, turning left and exiting east onto Main Street behind the bathrooms at the ball field by Spring Street. The exit would be set back 25 feet according to the city zoning ordinance and would be gated, with crushed rock from the gate to the road to keep excess dirt and mud off of the street. A fence is proposed to go around the north, east and south sides of the property expansion. A fence around the west side facing Two Rivers River would be cornered from bordering city property line north about 50 feet and stop since there is wetland and a lot of grown trees and ground cover. The city storm sewer drain would be located outside of the fence on city property but would need to be extended at business owners’ expense. The proposed fence would run along the property line of Opatz’ rental property on Washington Street, behind the rental house and along Bob Lane’s corner lot. A property survey would be needed. The adjoining properties, 130 Washington Street West and 110 Washington Street West are currently zoned residential and would need to be rezoned. Also discussed was extending no parking restrictions on Main Street near the exit. A public hearing was scheduled for Monday, July 11, 2016 to begin at 7:00 p.m. The regular monthly city council meeting will immediately follow. Alan Walz made a motion to adjourn.
