HOPKINS CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION PROCEEDINGS MAY 10, 2022 CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a work session of the Hopkins City Council was held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 6: 31 p. m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 1010 1St Street South. Mayor Hanlon called the meeting to order with Council Members Balan, Beck, Garrido and Hunke attending. Others attending included City Manager Mornson, Assistant City Manager Lenz, Management Analyst Imihy Bean, Director of Planning and Development Elverum and Community Development Coordinator Youngquist. Planning Commissioners White and Wright were also present. Mayor Hanlon shared the news about former Mayor Bob Miller' s passing and his contributions to the community. Urban Land Institute Navigating Your Competitive Future Discussion; Elverum The Urban Land Institute ( ULI) facilitated a Navigating Your Competitive Future ( NCF) workshop, which included an interactive discussion between the City Council, Planning Commission and volunteer real estate professionals that focused on current challenges associated with development and redevelopment. OTHER Announcements shared included upcoming events: Mainstreet Day, Garden Plot Kick- off, Board and Commission Interviews and the Bear Cave Brewing Ribbon Cutting. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the City Council and upon a motion by Balan, second by Garrido, the meeting was unanimously adjourned at 8: 21 p. m. NCF is designed to foster a meaningful dialogue to strengthen a mutual understanding of today’s economic reality, market preferences and demographic shifts, with a goal for participants to better understand the importance of effective partnerships and learn strategies to position the community to be competitive and resilient, and to attract the best quality development particularly in these uncertain and evolving economic times. No action will be taken by the City Council or Planning Commission. INFORMATION The meeting will include an overview of market forces and trends presented by Cathy Bennett from ULI, a facilitated panel discussion with key real estate professionals, and a question and answer session with the City Council and Planning Commission in response to the panel discussion.
