MINUTES HOT SPRINGS ARTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE December 12, 2023 12:00 PM 111 Opera Street, Suite A 1. Roll Call of Committee Members Committee Members present: Dale Blackwelder, June Simmons, Kara Gunter, Karen Wiley, and Eli Vega. Vacant Positions: 2. Staff: Anthony Whittington and Kathleen Fason. 2. Approval of the Agenda Eli made a motion to approve the December 12, 2023 agenda. Dale seconded the motion to approve the agenda with the addition. Motion passed. 3. Approval of the Minutes Karen made a motion to approve the September 11, 2023 minutes. Dale seconded. Motion passed. 4. Introduction of Guests 5. OLD BUSINESS: A. Café Juror Process: Anthony and Kathleen went over notes from their training. They showed the links, screens, and steps needed to complete juror selection of each artist application for the Jean W. Wallace Wetlands Trailhead sculpture. B. Sculpture Installation Update: Anthony explained that Holiday displays would need to be removed and other safety related projects completed before installation can be completed. Possibly by spring and before the mow season starts. C. Car Plinth Update: Anthony will be speaking with Tri-Lakes Ornamental on creation of the plinth needed to install the Car sculpture. He is hoping for a March installation. D. Discuss Adding a Public Art page to the City’s website: Kathleen explained that when reviewing the online map, showing sculpture in Hot Springs, she found it was very difficult to find and view individual pieces. After discussing with Public Information staff, she added sub-pages to the Public Art & Sculpture page with photos, artist and sculpture names, and date of acquisition. She showed the committee the website and where to find the page. 6. Arts Advisory Committee comments: Karen asked where we stand on the Bird Feeder sculpture being moved to a new location. Several suggestions were made, and all members agreed to visit the courthouse to view locations and discuss further at our next meeting. 7. Parks & Trails Director comments: Anthony suggested that we meet a week later in January to accommodate the closing date of January 12 on Café. All agreed. 8. Adjournment: Next meeting is Tuesday, January 16, 2024, 12:00 P.M., Parks Conference Room, 111 Opera Street, Suite A.
